Movie Night at Lucymont: La Fille Mal Gardée

Adage Ballet Academy’s Movie Night tradition continues at Lucymont with La Fille Mal Gardée (The Wayward Daughter), one of classical ballet’s most charming and joyful comedies.

Unlike the tragedy and grandeur of many nineteenth-century ballets, La Fille Mal Gardée is filled with humor, village life, young love, mischievous characters, and some of the repertory’s most delightful dancing.

The story follows Lise, a young woman in love with Colas, while her mother has very different plans for her future. What follows is a playful battle between love, parental expectations, and Lise’s determination to choose her own path.

Movie Nights are part of Adage Ballet Academy’s educational tradition. Throughout the season, our full-time dancers study classical repertoire through Theory, Repertoire, and Variations classes. At the end of each study period, we gather to explore the ballet in greater depth and watch a professional production together.

We are happy to open these evenings to the wider community at Lucymont.

The evening will begin with a brief presentation from Adage faculty introducing the ballet, its story, history, music, choreography, and the repertoire our dancers have been studying. We’ll then settle in together to watch a professional filmed performance projected on the big screen.

No ballet experience or prior knowledge is needed. Whether you are a dancer, parent, arts lover, or simply curious about classical ballet, you are welcome to join us.

Free Community Event

Admission is free and RSVP is recommended but not required .

A $5 suggested donation is welcomed for those who would like to support Adage Ballet Academy’s community programming.

Potluck-Style Refreshments

Movie Night is also a chance to gather around food and conversation. Guests are invited to contribute to our shared refreshments, with dishes coordinated through SignUpGenius so we can offer a balanced variety.
