- ➤ Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership released its 2025 annual report on Friday, Jan. 16. The report shows a $787,602 profit from community renovations and cleanup efforts funded by EPA and state programs — along with the planting of 310 shade trees. WFMJ
- ➤ On Thursday, Jan. 15, a dog was found tethered in the backyard of a Liberty Township residence on Euclid Avenue during a winter weather advisory, and the shelter's Humane Division impounded the animal after noticing frozen water and insufficient straw for warmth. WFMJ
- ➤ Fifth and sixth grade students at Blott Guy PK-6 organized a food drive in December to support Liberty Food Pantry at Church Hill United Methodist Church; the drive collected 3,078 items. Shelby Perry’s class (511 items) and Frances Klanica’s class (242 items) led the efforts. The Vindicator

- ➤ Youngstown's Butler Institute of American Art will host its first Meditation on American Masterpieces session at 11 a.m. Jan. 24, where guided exercises will use Alfred Leslie’s 'Americans: Youngstown, Ohio' (a nod to local heritage); the program will continue on the fourth Saturday through May. - ➤ Communities with recreational marijuana dispensaries have begun receiving tax revenue from sales collected between Sept. 2024 and Nov. 2025; funds were first distributed on Jan. 7. - ➤ On Jan. 7, the Boardman Board of Education held its annual meeting and swore in R. Scot Murray (a longtime local firefighter) as a new board member while John Landers, Victoria Davis and Tom Varley renewed their oaths. - ➤ At Wednesday's Canfield Board meeting, Judge Rusu swore in new members as Steve DeMaiolo became president and teacher Michael Kerensky will retire on March 1; the board approved a Dairy Queen tax abatement near the intersection of U.S.-224 and Fairgrounds Boulevard and set a Feb. 18 work session on facilities. - ➤ Northeast Ohio and western Pennsylvania high school students and their advisers may win prizes up to $200 in the second annual Youngstown Press Club Scholastic Journalism Awards contest. Entries from 82 high schools in the region must be submitted by March 18. Tribune Chronicle

- ➤ Youngstown resident Chantal Jones said a water line break on Meridian Road in June caused $17,000 damage to her home’s foundation and basement. She is urging Mayor McDowell to review the city’s denial of her claim (citing state law immunity). WFMJ
- ➤ Youngstown received $291,151 from the state pot tax revenue allocated to communities with dispensaries between Sept 2024 and Nov 2025. City officials plan to add the funds+ adjust the 2026 budget as the state made its first installment on Jan. 7. The Vindicator
