- ➤ Lt. Col. James ‘Jimmy’ Johnson Jr. retired Saturday at Avalon Country Club in Howland after 40 years of military service. He plans to return to Phoenix for a doctorate in strategic studies — and may move back to Cortland, where he feels at home. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Scout Troop 28 held its seventh annual Men Who Cook fundraiser on Sunday at Howland Community Church to support scout programs. Eleven local chefs, including Sheriff Mike Wilson, prepared dishes while a raffle helped raise funds (event supporters praised the community spirit). Tribune Chronicle
