- ➤ Students from YSU's Sokolov Honors College donated $10,000 to United Way of Youngstown Monday, Feb. 2—funds raised at local events at Raising Cane's, BJ's Brewhouse, and by painting driveways will support programs for children and families. WFMJ
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Fowler General Store and Bakery, known for its scratch made baked goods and local items, will close on Feb. 14 (3457 Youngstown Kingsville Road) as economic challenges force its doors to shut. It will operate regular hours over the next two weeks for final visits. WFMJ
- ➤ Renovations of the Vindicator building will start in late spring for the Youngstown Innovation Hub for Aerospace & Defense. Innovation Hub Director Megan Malara said the project, funded by Gov. Mike DeWine & Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel in February, will add space for local advanced manufacturing businesses next year. WFMJ

- ➤ Ribs N Rock festival will run from Thursday, June 11 to Saturday, June 13 at Southern Park Mall’s DeBartolo Commons in Boardman. It features headliners TRAPT on Thursday, The Clarks on Friday and Puddle of Mudd on Saturday, free daytime admission and contests among four top BBQ vendors. WFMJ
- ➤ Oakland Center for the Arts will host a purse-and-tool bingo fundraiser on March 6 at the former First United Church of Christ on E. Market St. in Warren to launch efforts in forming a stronger board and upgrading the sanctuary for upcoming stage shows in the spring. The Vindicator

- ➤ OH WOW! Science Center, a kid-oriented learning center, will offer free admission for adults accompanying children at 15 Central Square starting tomorrow. The promotion, supported by the Cohen & Co. Foundation, will become a weekly chance for caregivers including grandparents and other relatives to explore the center. WFMJ
- ➤ School leaders celebrated today in Austintown the grand opening of the Falcon Indoor Facility at Fitch. The new space, built for athletic, band, and community programs, represents a stable investment for student opportunities, said Superintendent Tim Kelty. WFMJ

- ➤ The Boardman Board of Education meets tonight at 5:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at Boardman High School to vote on a 5.9-mill levy renewal that funds daily operations for five years (the renewal maintains the current tax rate and could collect about $4.27 mil per year). WFMJ
- ➤ The Cleveland Fed named two valley CEOs, Dani Robbins of Lake to River Economic Development + John Miles of Steelite International, to its 16-member Shenango-Mahoning Valley advisory council on Friday, joined by Michael Walton of Jamestown Coating Technologies. - ➤ An 800-horsepower boiler began operating at 7 p.m. Sunday at the SOBE Thermal plant in downtown Youngstown, which is expected to restore heat after equipment failures left 28 buildings with low steam pressure. Officials expect temperatures to improve while the Public Utilities Commission monitors service. WFMJ
- ➤ Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel visited Kent State University at Trumbull on Monday morning to introduce WorkOhio, a new initiative uniting local agencies to help job seekers find opportunities and training in the community.
