COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Youngstown Action Center, located on Elm Street (North Side) for six years, provides food access, educational programs, free naloxone kits and other support to local groups, and it now welcomes neighbors to join its expanding community events.  The Vindicator
  • Last week during school closures and winter weather, Sebring Local Schools staff prepared 40 meal kits for families through pick-up or delivery, serving 112 students.  WFMJ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Village Creamery will open its new Boardman location at The Bunker in Southern Park Mall by the end of February — adding daily ice cream treats and lunch and dinner on Mondays and Tuesdays. Local fans and game day crowds are expected to enjoy the expansion near Double Bogey's.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Orahood, director at the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation for local counties, shared how memories of Papaw Ron, Mamaw Janice and other loved ones taught him the value of family and simple traditions. He said their lessons in hunting, farming and laughter live on in his daily life.  Tribune Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • YSU leaders held a town hall on Tuesday in Williamson Hall to discuss enrollment growth, partnerships with downtown businesses (and campus improvements) and future initiatives. The university will host a summer concert with Travis Tritt on July 10 and an open house in Steubenville in early April.  The Vindicator
  • The Youngstown Board of Education adopted a resolution Tuesday to back bipartisan bills (HB610 and SB332) that aim to remove state mandated academic distress commissions and introduce local student support teams for struggling schools starting next fall.  The Vindicator

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lordstown officials and residents objected to renewing a permit for the Trumbull Energy Center to discharge 620,000 gallons per day into Mud Creek at a public hearing on Wednesday. They prefer using the improved village sewer to protect homes, farms, and livestock as the plant nears spring operation.  Tribune Chronicle
