- ➤ The Girard Free Library will host a K9s For Compassion program at 6 p.m. today where children up to age 12 can read to therapy dogs (registration is required). Tribune Chronicle

- ➤ Youngstown State University hosted its annual African Marketplace Black History Month event on Saturday at James A. McKay Auditorium in Beeghly Hall, featuring local vendors like Paparazzi Jewelry and vibrant African dance performances from Harambee of Youngstown Inc. to honor historic milestones. The Vindicator
- ➤ On Sunday, Feb. 8, the Metroplex Expo Center in Girard hosted its first Northeast Ohio Reptile Show of 2026, drawing over 700 guests three hours before closing at 3 p.m. Vendors sold reptile feeders and hosted educational booths, and future shows will occur bi-monthly at the center. WFMJ
- ➤ At its second PostScript juried art show on Sunday, the YMCA Davis Branch in Boardman featured 39 artists displaying works for the ARTreach program. - ➤ Last Saturday, area children attended the fifth annual Kids Career Fair at the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, where about two dozen companies and school staff showcased skilled trades and hands-on career paths, sponsored by MCCTC, Valley STEM and City Machine Technologies Inc. - ➤ Part of a weekly series on our region’s past, the Trumbull County Historical Society features President McKinley’s Gold Coinage Act signed on March 14, 1900, which fixed the dollar as 25.8 grains of gold (a measure that stabilized the nation’s currency and aligned it with global economic practices). - ➤ Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership got $2.5 million from the Ohio EPA to clean five abandoned gas station sites in Trumbull County on Main St in Mineral Ridge, Belmont Ave in Liberty + three other locations.
