The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County hosted its 4th Annual Pokémon Day on Saturday at its Glenwood Avenue building to celebrate 30 years of the franchise.
The event drew local families who enjoyed card shuffling and game-inspired crafts (free educational fun for kids).

St. Patrick's Day celebrations kick off today in the Valley with festivals at Southern Park Mall and a range of events including runs, bar crawls, and family classes in Youngstown, Boardman, and Warren.
More events are scheduled through mid-March offering a variety of activities for all ages.

LIT Youngstown hosted its 9th Annual Winter Writing Camp on Saturday at the Main Library on Wick Avenue, where regional writers led free workshops teaching haiku and letter writing for youth+ adults.
The event offered creative fun in a friendly setting.

Poland Board of Education presented a five-year forecast on Wednesday that shows spending deficits beginning next year with a projected $90,628 hit in FY 2027.
Treasurer Jeanette Medina noted funds will drop as the district prepares to replace aging buses and redevelop Union School to cut costs.

The West Branch girls basketball team won the Division IV, Northeast 2 district final with a 50-40 victory over Streetsboro in Lordstown on Saturday.
Led by standout Madi Hoopes, the Warriors will face Gilmour Academy in the regional semifinals at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
On Saturday, Canfield’s Cardinals won the Division III Northeast 4 Girls district final 54-37 over Avon Lake at Elyria High School.
The seven seniors now advance—meeting in the regional semifinal on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Canton Memorial Fieldhouse.
