- ➤ The Girard community is hosting a fundraiser to support Donald Durkin, his partner Brittany Bullin and their 9-month-old after their home burned last month. The benefit runs Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at Margherita’s Grille (728 N. State St.) and includes dinner and raffles. The Vindicator
- ➤ Woodland Meadows, a senior housing facility at 632 Champion Street East, secured a $1.95 million USDA Rural Development loan to renovate its 45-year-old property, with interior work starting in April + exterior repairs planned in June, officials said. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Hubbard youth leader James Chaney told council at a meeting that the Hubbard Youth Coalition finished a $450,000 renovation of the Roosevelt Student Wellness Center. - ➤ Poland Seminary High School closed Tuesday, March 3 after officials canceled classes due to a potential threat, and local authorities were alerted to investigate the incident (details remain unclear). WFMJ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Trumbull County commissioners are expected to approve an abatement request by Charles Manufacturing Corp today. The request supports a $270,000 construction project for new offices that will create four full-time jobs + boost annual payroll to at least $400,000. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Austintown Township cut its yearly $27,000 support for the student-run ACTV media program at Monday’s meeting to save taxpayer money while the program still covers school events except trustees meetings. Local officials said the change comes after nearly 40 years of support. The Vindicator
- ➤ School officials said LYRIC closed for a few days after a volleyball post fell and broken beams were found, spurring concerns about the gym floor and roof.
