- ➤ Thrive Mahoning Valley’s Transportation Equity Program has expanded into Pedal Forward Bike Shop — located at 854 Wilson Avenue — offering new and used bikes, repair services, and free safety gear to support local transportation needs. Since 2023, over 170 bicycles have been provided, with another 120 planned for 2026. WFMJ

- ➤ Local fire departments responded around 5:30 p.m. to a barn fire on State Route 45 in Bristol Township that killed about 10 cows (no people were injured) as crews cleared the scene and reopened Painseville Warren State Road between Housel Craft Road and Nelson Lane. WFMJ

- ➤ LT Corporation (based in Cleveland, Mississippi) acquired Commercial Metal Forming on Logan Avenue in Youngstown to boost its manufacturing presence. The purchase includes additional facilities in Texas and California, company leadership said. WFMJ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Simply Slavic festival will expand its celebration to three days for its 15th anniversary from Friday, June 26, through Sunday, June 28 at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre. The event will feature authentic Slavic food, music, dancing, vendors and family-friendly activities including a Catholic Mass on Sunday. WFMJ

- ➤ Poland Local Schools has named three finalists—Andrew Tommelleo, Anna Minor, and Andreas Johansson—for its new superintendent. Final interviews are set for Monday, March 9 at Poland Seminary High School, with the board expected to announce a decision on Wednesday, March 11. WFMJ
- ➤ Nicole Mathias, a teacher with Sebring Local Schools, was honored as Educator of the Year at the second annual Mahoning Valley Educators of the Year Honors Dinner held Tuesday at the Eastwood Event Centre. Nearly 400 educators, administrators, and community leaders attended the event, which also recognized four additional specialties. The Vindicator
- ➤ Trumbull Career & Technical Center and Second Harvest Food Bank partnered to offer an after-school culinary arts class for elementary students, during which 17 sixth graders prepared drop biscuits and scrambled eggs. - ➤ Winter 2025-26 in Youngstown was the coldest in 11 years with 46.1 inches of snowfall and an extreme AWSSI score of 692 as temperatures dropped well below normal and hit the region with dry, fluffy snow; mid-March may bring a return of winter-like chill. WFMJ

- ➤ Coitsville Township is considering control of the historic McGuffey Wildlife Preserve, which includes the McGuffey Family Pond and Dock (a landmark since 1966), based on a letter from the Mahoning County Prosecutor's Office. Historical Society Chairman Richard Scarcella warned the move might deny taxpayers the park they support. WFMJ

- ➤ Meridian HealthCare announced that new providers will join its Meridian Road, Donofrio Center, and Warren locations to expand primary care, women's health, psychiatry and addiction treatment services.
