- ➤ Local teens from Poland High School shared their Jewish heritage with peers at Newton Falls High School today through the Student to Student program of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation. - ➤ Goodwill hosted its third annual Mission Breakfast at Tippecanoe Country Club (5870 Tippecanoe Road) in Canfield on Thursday morning, where Gary Vandetti and his sister shared personal testimonials about the support they received from the nonprofit. - ➤ Joyce J. Chen, an OSU economics professor, spoke at the Youngstown Business Professional Women Equal Pay event Wednesday at La Casa Mexicana in Boardman, where she recounted filing a pay equity appeal and receiving a 20% raise + leaving her department for fairer treatment. The Vindicator
- ➤ Bolindale Christian Church in Howland updated its food pantry with $62,750 in county funds + the remodel now has four rooms where clients can pick donated foods from Second Harvest Food Bank. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ The 35th annual Harvest for Hunger drive has kicked off in Youngstown and will run through May 20 to gather food and funds for local hunger-relief programs using a network that served nearly 10 million pounds of food last year. - ➤ First Fridays Youngstown began on March 6 at SMARTS with art activities, music, and a live show by Larry Elefante — the free event energized downtown — while Bert Kreischer’s comedy performance is scheduled at Covelli Centre on Sunday at 7 p.m. and YSU will host planetarium shows on Saturday. - ➤ At the Mathews Board meeting Thursday, superintendent Russell McQuaide said the job listing for the new superintendent has been posted with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center — he and board president Joel Polonius will meet with Robert Marino to define candidate criteria and discuss compensation to attract a lasting leader. - ➤ Campbell City Schools superintendent Matthew Bowen met with the Ohio Department of Education and a panel from the Whole Child Work Group yesterday to discuss using the district’s Whole Child Framework to improve student health, safety and engagement. The advisory board will meet in Columbus on Apr. 24. WFMJ

- ➤ Roger and Janet Wilson on South Briarcliff Drive in Canfield opposed unauthorized fence work along Sawmill Creek, contaminated by a chemical spill in July 2024, and worry that heavy equipment cleanup in 2026 could harm the creek’s natural habitat and lower property values (neighbors share the concerns). - ➤ Today, crews are fixing a water break in front of Dairy Queen on Route 422 in Girard; the north lane is closed before Dairy Queen + traffic is rerouted between Howard Street and Second Street. Residents may see little water pressure, though no boil alert has been issued. WFMJ
- ➤ Poland resident Hugh Braham urged council on Tuesday to remove two dead trees near the Shell gas station for about $1,260 and clean up extra no-parking signs for a tidier village. Council also approved buying a 2025 patrol car — valued at $44,210 — and funding a $73,040 off-road path project. The Vindicator

- ➤ The former Sparkle Market on South Avenue in Boardman was sold to Dearing Compressor Company for $875,000 on March 5, according to the county auditor’s website. The market closed after 73 years of service in 2025 and new plans have not yet been announced. WFMJ

- ➤ Western Reserve girls basketball lost 45-33 in Thursday's Division VII regional semifinal at Massillon Perry as Seneca East's 20-5 third quarter run put the Tigers ahead.
