  • A Girard fundraiser last Sunday at Margherita's Grille raised about $3,800 to help Donald Durkin and Brittnee Bullen rebuild after losing their home, car, and belongings in a fire. Organizers announced another fundraiser will take place on March 29 at East Side Civics at 968 E. Midlothian Blvd.  Tribune Chronicle
  • New research by the Ohio Library Council shows that 92% of Ohioans value public libraries for literacy programs, digital access, and workforce support — the data highlights widespread use and underscores the need for local funding as proposals could cut property tax revenue by 2027.  Tribune Chronicle
  • St. Luke's Church on South Avenue hosted a fundraiser to support a local man left quadriplegic after spinal surgery. Community members gathered & rallied to help with his recovery.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Trumbull New Theatre in Niles is showing Storm Warning, a play by Norm Foster that blends drama with humor — featuring Cravalho and Bunker — in a 1950s tale set in a Canadian wilderness. It runs Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. until March 22.  Tribune Chronicle
  • The Polish Arts Club of Youngstown held its 86th Annual Scholarship Art, Music and Tea Reception on Sunday at the Butler Institute of American Art — awarding scholarships to Kent State students and featuring musicians performing Schubert, Bach and Chopin — to celebrate Polish heritage.  WFMJ
  • Trumbull New Theatre presents Norm Foster’s Storm Warning, a dramatic play blending serious themes with humor, starting Friday at 7:30 p.m. and continuing through March 22 at its Niles location — tickets are $17 for adults and $15 for students.  The Vindicator
  • Two local Irish organizations named Michael James Murphy Irish Man of the Year and Colleen Collins Boyle Irish Woman of the Year; the awards celebration is set for Tuesday, Mar. 17 at St. Patrick Parish and Hall with advance tickets at $30.  The Vindicator

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lakeview Middle School sixth grader Brent Miller from Liberty will compete at 9 a.m. Saturday at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown in the 93rd annual 21-WFMJ Regional Spelling Bee — his third try to advance to the National Bee — as he works to improve on last year's finish.  Tribune Chronicle
  • High school students showcased their drone-flying skills during a competition at the Mahoning County Career (Technical Center) in Canfield on Saturday. Local teams, including Jackson-Milton High, competed against groups from Cleveland, Columbus, and Dayton and will advance to a regional event at Kettering University.  The Vindicator

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The final Backyard Conservation Series program — held Saturday at the Brookfield branch of the Warren-Trumbull Public Library — showcased how Rachel Carson’s work helped save bald eagles. Amy Reeher of the Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District said historic DDT bans spurred the birds’ comeback and highlighted safe modern larvicide options.  Tribune Chronicle

  • The Silver Linings Cancer Fund held a denim and diamonds brunch on Sunday for local cancer patients, featuring over 200 women, vendors, & 75 community-donated gift baskets while raising about $85,000 in 2025 to support patients in active treatment.  WFMJ
