- ➤ Pennex Aluminum will host an open job fair in Leetonia next week on Friday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. to noon; onsite interviews and same-day hiring for over 30 roles will be offered. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Forty-two Valley educators were honored at Eastwood Event Centre on Mar. 3 at the Mahoning Valley Educator of the Year Dinner. Five winners will join a yearlong professional development course (including training at Ron Clark Academy) through Huntington Bank’s Ignite the Classroom Initiative. WFMJ
- ➤ Registration is open for the free Kinship Summer Camp hosted by Easterseals of Northeast Ohio for children raised by caregivers 55 or older. The camp runs Mondays-Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 299 Edwards Street from June 8 to July 30 and offers free lunch and transportation. WFMJ
- ➤ Trumbull County Career & Technical Center in Champion Twp is set to begin the roof replacement project’s second phase after its Board of Education approved $1.9 million on Thursday night. The work will cover 50,000 sqft on the adult education section and an industrial wing. WFMJ
- ➤ Mahoning Valley Astronomical Society held a recent public event at YSU Ward Beecher Planetarium — residents learned to select and use telescopes with guidance from experts. The group, founded in 1939, also organizes seasonal stargazing programs at its Braceville observatory and outdoors. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ At its March 10 meeting, the Struthers Board of Education approved key contracts to boost cybersecurity and mentoring programs and accepted the list of 2026 high school graduates. The board also hired a volunteer baseball coach and approved an overnight field trip for cheerleaders at Ashland University. The Vindicator
- ➤ Ten South Range students qualified for the national Speech and Debate Association tournament in Richmond this summer after their NSDA Northern Ohio District competition on Feb. 21 at Poland Seminary High School. - ➤ Girard High School senior Dylan Trevelline has been named a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, joining about 15,000 top students out of 1.3 million nationwide. He plans to pursue a pre-med track at college after graduation. The Vindicator
