  • Salem hosts the third annual Youth Summit on Saturday where teenagers from Columbiana and Mahoning Counties meet to grow in a safe space with guidance from The Brightside Project. Attendees registered in advance can win prizes (scooter, TV, gift cards) in a raffle drawing.  WFMJ
  • Birdfish Brewing Company is hosting a three-day St. Patrick's Day celebration that began Saturday and continued Sunday with live music and food trucks. The taproom at 140 East Park Avenue will unveil No. 231 Irish Blonde Ale at 4 p.m. Tuesday honoring Nicholas Cayton (proceeds go to his family).  WFMJ
  • As of Sunday morning, 1,687 customers remain without power across five counties after high winds disrupted service on Friday and early Saturday. Restoration times vary and drivers are advised to use caution at intersections (updates are available on FirstEnergy's website).  WFMJ
  • Thrive Mahoning Valley’s Pedal Forward program (formerly Bikes for Students) provides free bicycles and repair services to residents facing transportation challenges. The ongoing initiative in Youngstown supports reliable commuting and offers a showroom with new and used bikes to those in need.  The Vindicator

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday, Boardman hosted the 48th annual Mahoning Valley St. Patrick’s Day Parade along Market Street, drawing about 30,000 spectators to celebrate Irish traditions and honor founding member Joyce Kale-Pesta. Local schools, community groups and police participated — marking a cherished celebration amid cool, partly cloudy weather.  Tribune Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eighth-grader Genevieve Ramey of Lincoln PK-8 in Warren won the 93rd 21 WFMJ Regional Spelling Bee Saturday at Stambaugh Auditorium in Youngstown & earned a $2,000 scholarship that sends her to compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. during Memorial Day weekend.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Extending Grace in Hubbard held a Biscotti + Scones workshop Saturday where Bridget Harker taught locals how to prepare and cut dough for baked goods. Participants learned tips to reduce waste and get creative with fillings during the session.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Youngstown State University announced that Christina Saenger, Ph.D., will become dean of the Williamson College of Business Administration effective April 1. She served as interim dean since July (overseeing key strategic shifts) and plans to expand academic programs and faculty support.  The Vindicator

HEALTH NEWS

  • Shave Youngstown raised more than $92,000 at Saturday's event at Penguin City Brewing to fund children’s cancer research and support families. Organizers also announced a bar crawl on March 28 in Newton Falls — continuing fundraising efforts.  The Vindicator

  • Three area wrestlers from South Range, Austintown Fitch and West Branch finished as runners up at the OHSAA state wrestling finals on Sunday. Tyson Seesholtz (senior), Reghan Koch and Beau Nezbeth won early matches but lost in tough finals that ended impressive seasons.  The Vindicator
