COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber will honor three Valley leaders for business and community work on April 16 at Waypoint 4180 in Canfield from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. The event will present awards to Eric Ryan and Samuel Miller while keynote speaker Jan Prisby Bryson shares her story of breaking barriers.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Don Hughes Jr. of Vienna and local residents cleared a fallen tree from a Venice Drive home in Howland early Monday after windstorms began Sunday — no one was injured.  Tribune Chronicle
  • YSU students and staff are collecting cans for Second Harvest Food Bank's canstruction event aimed at fighting hunger. The event will display canned food structures with an Aquarium theme at Eastwood Mall from Monday, May 8 until June 11 and the Sokolov Honors College is inviting donations of specific food items.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Four local businessmen invested in the horror comedy Family Movie, co-directed by Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, which premiered Friday at SXSW in Austin. They attended the afterparty and now hope to arrange a local screening — possibly paired with a Bacon Brothers concert.  Tribune Chronicle
  • The Harlem Globetrotters will perform at Covelli Centre on April 13, 2026—bringing a family-friendly basketball show to local fans. The arena offers buy-one, get-one-free tickets with promo code BOGO2026.  WFMJ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Since the Feb. 28 conflict began among the US, Israel & Iran, regular gas prices in the Mahoning Valley have jumped nearly 70 cents to an average $3.43 per gallon, with diesel also rising over $1.35. The U.S. is set to release 172 million barrels from its reserves to ease supply concerns.  Tribune Chronicle

  • At Boardman High School, Boardman Optimist Club awarded its township-wide essay contest winners; freshman Katie DePinto secured first place and will advance to the district level for a $2,500 scholarship + sophomores Elijah Land and Reagan Ridgley earned second and third prizes as teachers looked on.  The Vindicator
  • Niles Middle School Assistant Principal Leah Marsh (with 18 years in education) was named one of three finalists for the NASSP National Middle Level Assistant Principal of the Year award. The award will be announced on April 17 in Washington, D.C.  Tribune Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Trumbull County Engineer’s Office will help Kinsman study drainage issues causing flooding after heavy rains. Trustees will vote at 9 a.m. Saturday on a resolution to start the free drainage study, with pipe inspections scheduled for April.  Tribune Chronicle
  • On Thursday, legal experts, judges, and Sheriff Greene met on Zoom to discuss improving mental health care for inmates held in a jail that acts as a de facto hospital; they planned to hire a state-funded forensic mental health navigator to better assist those in need.  The Vindicator

  • Yesterday, YSU's Guin Fit launched its monthly podcast (Wellness in the Valley) to share local health and wellness efforts in the Mahoning Valley. The podcast features interviews with community partners on physical activity, family healthy weight programs and nutrition.  WFMJ
