CRIME NEWS

  • Valerie Ross was charged with misdemeanor aggravated menacing and domestic violence for allegedly attacking her partner with a fire extinguisher on Miller Avenue Saturday afternoon—Amya Barnette was charged with misdemeanor assault for punching a woman outside a downtown nightclub at 2:24 a.m.  The Vindicator
  • A Girard man with an active domestic violence warrant—Randy Weibel, 38—fled from Liberty police late Saturday when his car reached over 100 mph and nearly endangered two other drivers; he pleaded not guilty Monday and will appear in court on March 26.  The Vindicator
  • A Girard woman banned from Walmart and Sam’s Club pleaded not guilty to theft and drug paraphernalia charges after Liberty police arrested her at Liberty Plaza Walmart on Sunday, where staff said she concealed items before fleeing on foot and police found active arrest warrants and illegal materials in her possession — her companion was issued a summons for similar charges.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Howland Township Police arrested a person on Sunday after a TikTok post threatened Howland Middle School—officials said there is no current threat.  WFMJ
  • A Youngstown police officer, Joshua Rivers, 34, will appear in Girard Municipal Court today after troopers on state Route 11 near Liberty stopped him on Friday at 11:49 p.m. for speeding, observed signs of impairment, and found a firearm he said he carried on duty—he now faces charges of OVI and improper handling of a firearm.  The Vindicator
  • Police arrested 19-year-old Travon Pearce at 10:20 p.m. on Saturday after he led a nearly 30-minute chase from the South Side to Warren in a stolen car missing back tires—using stop sticks to blow out one tire—while he will be arraigned on Monday for charges of failing to obey a police signal, receiving stolen property and possessing fentanyl.  WKBN

  • Warren Zeiders, originally set to support a Tim McGraw concert postponed due to downtown road closures from the Realty Tower explosion, will headline at the Covelli Centre on Nov. 21 after a one year delay. Chayce Beckham will open the show (as part of his Relapse, Lies and Betrayal Tour) and the performance will be the next-to-last stop on a 27-city tour extension.  Tribune Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is asking for names for the Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame Award — it will honor people who have long worked to protect our water, soil, woodlands, wildlife and minerals at a ceremony at the Ohio State Fair. Nominations must be sent by mail or online by April 28 and nominees must be born in Ohio or have helped protect our natural resources.  The Vindicator

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Youngstown ended 2024 with a record $61,100,100 in income and business profit taxes after a major employer’s business tax jumped 131.56%—a one-time increase driven by post-COVID inflation, city finance director Kyle Miasek said. Miasek warned that tax collections will drop by 11.74% this year as the city works on its 2025 budget with council set to meet on March 26.  The Vindicator
