COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday, the Laying of Roses ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial in downtown Youngstown honored over 100 veterans who died in the Vietnam War; veterans and residents gathered at the intersection of Wick Avenue (West Federal Street) to pay their respects. WFMJ
- ➤ Flying High Inc. launched its Adopt-a-Bed Initiative to provide quality beds for local families in need. The nonprofit invites community members to donate and volunteer, and more details on locations + dates will follow. WFMJ
- ➤ MASCO held its first annual craft show on Saturday, March 21 in Mahoning County to spread awareness about its support services for adults with developmental disabilities. Regional Director Ashley Davis said the event, which featured over 40 local vendors, aimed to boost community engagement around its vocational and day habilitation programs. WFMJ
- ➤ Jacqueline's Bridal, located at 14 North Main Street in Poland, hosted the Wedding Rewind event on March 21 at Drakes Landing Banquet Center in Canfield to raise funds for Lifebanc (a nonprofit for organ and tissue donation) with proceeds from ticket sales, 50/50 tickets, and silent auctions. - ➤ Parents gathered Sunday at Boardman High School Gymnasium for the 1st Annual Spring Craft Show to support band members—over 100 vendors, food trucks, and the Easter Bunny boosted the free event that will raise $6,000 for instrument upkeep, uniforms, and travel costs. WFMJ
- ➤ The Catholic Diocese approved closing two Youngstown churches because they are not financially sustainable after merging with another parish. Saint Brendan’s church will close Monday, May 4 and St. Mathias’ church will close Monday, May 18 to help prevent future debt through sale of the buildings. WFMJ
- ➤ The Second Harvest Food Bank announced its Executive Director retired on Mar. 23 & the board will soon start searching for a new leader to keep serving those in need. WFMJ
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Kohan Retail Investment Group now owes $338,838.73 in unpaid property taxes after missing the early March deadline — a return to delinquency following a full repayment of over $1 million in taxes and penalties in December 2025, county treasurer Dan Yemma confirmed. WFMJ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ LOOP Youngstown Arts + Culture Center received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Mahoning Valley to support its local art projects — the funds come from the Rick Shale Fund, CFMV Arts and Culture Fund, and Charles and Priscilla Memorial Fund. WFMJ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The I-680 on-ramp from Mahoning Ave. closed permanently on Mar 23, 2026, affecting local traffic (drivers will need to use alternate routes) in Youngstown. WFMJ
- ➤ Vienna Township trustees approved increasing fire department staffing from 130 to 192 hours per week starting April 1, 2026 in a move toward 24/7 emergency service. Fire Chief Gus Birch said the department plans to have two responders on duty and will use donations, levies, and aid from nearby townships. WFMJ

- ➤ Mercy Health opened its new North Road Walk-In Care center in Warren on Monday. The clinic at 1552 North Road SE treats common illnesses and injuries and operates 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. WFMJ
