- ➤ On Friday a Trumbull County woman lost $23,000 after she followed an email that looked like it came from PayPal and spoke with a man who claimed to be a CIA agent and said her cash was needed to verify a money laundering investigation — a similar scam swindled a man in Boardman out of $20,000 last week. - ➤ A man found with several gunshot wounds on Friday in the 500 block of East Lucius Avenue died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Health Center after life support was removed—police are investigating his death along with a homicide on the West Side that has brought Youngstown's 2025 homicide count to five. - ➤ A Boardman man was charged with felonious assault, tampering with evidence, having weapons under disability and carrying concealed weapons after police said he randomly shot at a man waiting at a bus stop in Liberty, grazing his jacket on Friday morning—he is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Girard Municipal Court on Wednesday with a $250,000 bond. - ➤ A 14-year-old boy was arraigned Monday in Mahoning County Juvenile Court on charges of murder with a gun specification after police responded to a fatal shooting on Rhoda Avenue on the West Side at 2:14 p.m. Sunday — officers found a man with a gunshot wound in a home who later died at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and the boy is held in detention pending a pretrial hearing. - ➤ ODOT said a garbage truck hit the Walker Mill Road Bridge nearly two weeks ago and the bridge will remain closed for emergency repairs including beam work and heat straightening through mid-June. Interstate 680 northbound will have one lane, which may slow emergency responses and frustrate local residents. WKBN
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Insight Health Systems paused local operations + furloughed employees at its Trumbull and Hillside hospitals and outpatient centers on Monday, though its East Market Street emergency room and limited lab and radiology services stayed open. A spokesperson said the furlough will last no more than six months as the system restructures after Steward Health Care stopped funding, with Dr. Jawad Shah taking over leadership while Dr. Gray Goncz stepped down.
