COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Chips for Kids raised funds yesterday for Alta Care Group programs supporting local children and community services. The successful fundraiser highlighted the group's efforts to provide ongoing support to families in the area.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • TCHS (Trumbull County Historical Society) acquired a new archaeological collection donated by Thomas R. Piggot in July 2025 that includes research, artifacts, field notes and photos from local excavations in the Valley; the society is now cataloging the collection and will create a dedicated room to display Piggot’s work.  WFMJ
  • Rapper Armani White headlines Federal Frenzy on April 18 from 2 to 11 p.m. downtown (presented by YSU Penguin Productions), marking his first scheduled Youngstown performance since a 2020 cancellation. More than 20 acts and local vendors will perform on indoor and outdoor stages to support downtown businesses.  The Vindicator
  • Youngstown Playhouse opened its new downtown theater yesterday with a performance of 'The Lyons' that caught local interest.  WFMJ
  • Armani White will headline Federal Frenzy in downtown Youngstown on April 18 from 2 to 11 p.m., a free music event featuring over 20 acts performing on indoor + outdoor stages after his March 2020 event was postponed due to the pandemic.  Tribune Chronicle

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Kimberly-Clark will permanently close a section of Pine Avenue between Buron Street and Deforest Road in Howland Township on Friday, Mar. 27+ drivers will be rerouted via State Route 169, adding less than three minutes to their commute as the company prepares its $800 million manufacturing facility.  WFMJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stadium Drive Elementary in Boardman received the first Lots of Literacy award from the Ohio Lottery on March 25; the award comes with a trophy plus a $500 Barnes and Noble gift card and two bean bags to help grow the library's graphic novel collection.  WFMJ
  • Youngstown City School students left Tuesday on an eight-day bus trip called Sojourn to the Past, visiting key civil rights sites like the Freedom Riders Museum in Montgomery, Ala. Freshman Jon Luke Robles said he hopes to carry forward lessons from 1960s social justice struggles (group leaders noted).  The Vindicator
  • Brookfield Local Schools installed cameras on its school buses to catch illegal passing and keep students safe. The system, funded by a $6,321 grant, is now operating near bus stops to record violations in real time.  WFMJ
  • Youngstown City Schools announced that all students will attend classes on Monday, Mar. 30 after the district canceled a professional development day due to inclement weather; Choffin juniors and seniors will report to their home school while Choffin will not hold regular classes.  WFMJ

  • McDonald beat Mineral Ridge in a softball game on Wednesday, Mar. 25 — a matchup that highlighted strong pitching and teamwork at a local field.  WFMJ
  • YSU’s bowling team defends its national title as it competes in the NCAA tournament on April 3 at 9 a.m. at Royal Scot Golf and Bowl in the Lansing Regional. The rebuilt team of six freshmen aims to repeat as champions—possibly a first since Maryland Eastern Shore.  Tribune Chronicle
