- ➤ At a Hermitage board meeting, the board and Fire Department awarded three local firefighters Medals of Honor for rescuing a man from a sinking vehicle at Lake Julia. The firefighters arrived in less than four minutes—quick enough to pull the man to safety after a 911 call received just after 10:24 a.m. last Wednesday. WFMJ

- ➤ Brandon Ravnell, 37, was arrested Tuesday night on West Side after police responded to reports of masked men and later found a loaded handgun and Suboxone strips on him (he faced charges of tampering with evidence, being a felon in possession of a firearm, obstructing official business, and drug possession) and he was arraigned Wednesday in municipal court. - ➤ Keondre Lewis—20, a former Youngstown City Schools football player—was fatally shot Sunday on the West Side at a home on Rhoda Avenue, and police later arrested a 14-year-old boy who was charged with murder with a firearm while the school district offered condolences to his family. - ➤ Early Tuesday at 6 a.m., officers responded to an alarm on the 2500 block of Market Street in Southside when a suspect driving a white box truck used a power tool to cut the lock on a security gate—forcing it open—before shattering the front door and trying to remove an ATM bolted to the floor; after the owner showed video evidence, the suspect fled north at high speed and police collected evidence at the scene. - ➤ The Butler Institute of American Art bought the large Alfred Leslie painting Americans: Youngstown, Ohio — painted in our city in 1977–78 — for $300,000 and received his earlier work High Tea as part of the deal. - ➤ City officials approved a nearly $3 million contract—awarded to MS Consultants Inc.—for preliminary design work on a wet weather facility at the confluence of Crab Creek and the Mahoning River as part of ongoing negotiations with federal and state agencies over the wastewater improvement dispute. - ➤ City officials are appealing a court decision that would reinstate Brian Flynn—fired on December 2 for neglecting his duty with child abuse referrals—to modify an arbitrator’s ruling. Deputy law director Adam Buente said the arbitrator exceeded his authority by not properly assessing whether Flynn’s misconduct was serious under the progressive discipline guidelines. The Vindicator
- ➤ Hubbard Public Library closed on March 26 due to repairs and safety concerns after a crane moved an HVAC system onto its roof — an employee said the library might have reopened later that day but no reopening time was set. WFMJ
