- ➤ Jacob's Heart, a non-profit from Lisbon, is giving support to a local family with a baby fighting Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. The charity, started by Nicole and Chris Eells in memory of their son Jacob, helps children at Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley and now aids 6-month-old Ariella Torres as she recovers from her third open heart surgery. - ➤ Families in Ellsworth filed a civil wrongful death lawsuit against Window World of Youngstown after an Oct. 5 home explosion killed four people; they stated that a work crew damaged a propane line during siding repairs. The lawsuit seeks over $200,000 in damages — including $25,000 each in punitive and compensatory amounts per victim — and will be heard by Judge Maureen Sweeney in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. - ➤ A 46-year-old Youngstown man, identified as Danny Daviduk, was detained in Liberty Township after he attempted to steal a catalytic converter from a Chevrolet Trailblazer when police heard a sawzall and found a fresh cut mark on the converter—police later discovered two cut converters, removal tools, and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle—court records show he faces felony charges of vandalism, theft, receiving stolen property, and possession of criminal tools plus a misdemeanor drug paraphernalia charge after being arraigned on March 26 and he is due in court on April 2. - ➤ Lisa Springs was driving the car when her sister suddenly opened fire on another vehicle outside a west side apartment complex last March — the judge sentenced Springs to two years behind bars while her sister is set to be sentenced today. WKBN

- ➤ Today, the ACTS Performing Arts Center in downtown Sharon is staging Sweeney Todd inside the former Sacred Heart Church—where a cast of two dozen local actors will feature a different celebrity during each of the eight shows. The musical opens at 7:30 p.m. today and runs through April 12. WYTV
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The state awarded nearly $149,000 to nine law enforcement agencies in the Mahoning and Trumbull valleys to support new and upgraded body camera programs. The grants come from the Ohio Body-Worn Camera Grant Program (announced by the Department of Public Safety’s Office of Criminal Justice Services), which will help some agencies start programs while others improve existing systems. - ➤ The emergency department at Insight Hospital and Medical Center Trumbull closed at 3 p.m. Thursday for the foreseeable future and all current patients were transferred to another hospital for safety.
