COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local high school students joined a Sojourn to the Past tour at the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery on Wednesday, where they honored lynching victims (including Josiah Moss's connection with his great-great grandfather) as part of a community effort to remember history.  The Vindicator
  • A 1920s-themed casino night was held Friday at Aulizio’s Banquet Center in Warren to raise funds for Alta Care programs that help local children in need. The second annual event featured casino games, jazz + whiskey tasting while celebrating Alta Care’s 50th anniversary with many new sponsors.  WFMJ
  • Window World in Youngstown announced its new service dog Journey (a two-month-old lab and golden retriever mix from America’s VetDogs’ Puppy With a Purpose program). Raised by the company’s team, Journey will be featured in showrooms and community events before training for future placement with a veteran or first responder.  WFMJ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A local family-run business is nearing its 90-year milestone and will celebrate its long legacy with community events planned later this month at its historic location. The celebration marks decades of service to the area.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Seven women were honored at the Warrior in Her Gala on March 27 for their important contributions to the community. The ceremony was held at a local venue and celebrated each honoree’s achievements (more details may be available later).  WFMJ
  • Downtown Youngstown hosts a busy weekend of live performances, free planetarium shows and YSU athletic games; The Youngstown Playhouse presents The Lyons today at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2:30 p.m. while several community events offer fun for all.  WFMJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Spectrum gave Oak Hill Collaborative a $20,000 grant and a digital education class to boost its Digital Learning Center programs in Youngstown—helping residents learn safe online practices.  WFMJ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • DannLaw is offering free legal consultation to unpaid TSA employees amid the government shutdown, hosting a one-hour online session on April 2 at 5:00 p.m. in Youngstown — coordinated with the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association to help workers manage banking and debt issues.  WFMJ

SPORTS NEWS

  • YSU ended its season with a 72-46 loss to Marshall in the WNIT Super 16 on Friday at Zidian Family Arena (a season marked by historic 25 wins and key milestones), and coach Melissa Jackson plans to retain talent as the program moves into the offseason.  Tribune Chronicle
