- ➤ Gordon Moore, a senior at Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, recently completed an Eagle Scout project by building a chimney swift tower in Poland Township Park to give the birds a safe nesting space. He built the tower on the open cross country field with help from his family and Troop 44 using supplies from the park — and his Eagle Court of Honor will take place in a few weeks. The Vindicator
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The MCCTC Adult Career Center in Canfield is launching a five-month veterinary assistant program to teach skills in animal care—students will complete 150 hours of classroom training and 100 hours of externship, with an open house at 6 p.m. April 8 to tour the facility and learn more. - ➤ On Saturday at YSU, middle and high school students from Northeast Ohio took part in National History Day where they created projects about Rights and Responsibilities in History—working in categories like exhibit, documentary, website, performance, and paper. Winners, including over 20 medalists from St. Rose Catholic School, will advance to state competition. The Vindicator
- ➤ Choffin Career & Technical Center has opened two care closets in partnership with United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning Valley — one on the third floor with nonperishable food and the other on the second floor with clothing and personal hygiene products. Assistant principal Denise Zordich said the service will help students meet basic needs so they can focus on their education. The Vindicator

- ➤ City council will consider Wednesday a proposal to let the board of control accept a $1.6 million federal grant that will pay 75% of eight police officers' salaries and to increase a state loan by about $2.8 million for a lead waterline replacement project in Buckeye Plat — officials say the grant will cover new hires and the loan increase will improve aging infrastructure. Council will also vote on spending up to $236,627 for cleanup and repairs at Covelli Centre — funds meant to restore the facility after damage from a January frozen waterline break. The Vindicator

- ➤ Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley will honor health care leaders including Mercy Health Youngstown Protective Services, Mercy Health Joanie Abdu Comprehensive Breast Care Center and Dr. Carl R.
