- ➤ Trumbull County Children Services held its 21st annual Pinwheels for Prevention ceremony on Wednesday at Warren G. Harding High School Student Recreation and Wellness Center, planting 1,373 pinwheels for last year’s child abuse reports + local leaders urged residents to report concerns and volunteer to support safe homes. - ➤ Youngstown CityScape held its 16th annual Grass Roots Gala Monday at Stambaugh Auditorium — Scott Schulick received a key to the city as community members enjoyed local food and live music at a tailgate party. The Vindicator
- ➤ Fast Feet donated $2,000 each to the Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown and SMARTS at Second Sole in Boardman Thursday afternoon to support local youth programs. The group has given proceeds to charities every year since 2021 and will resume its events in spring. WFMJ
- ➤ Jesse Lee Carter Sr., the city’s first black firefighter, died Saturday at age 96 after 33 years of service. Memorial services with military honors will run 5-7 p.m. on April 9 at Jaylex Event Center and a viewing 9-11 a.m. on April 10 at Third Baptist Church. The Vindicator

- ➤ A transformer fire on Tuesday night cut power to 36 buildings in Youngstown (including the OH WOW! Science Center and Purple Cat building) and FirstEnergy restored power for most customers by 10:30 a.m. while crews suspected heavy water from storms played a role. WFMJ

- ➤ The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation has withdrawn its eviction notice for G’s Chop Shop on Canfield Road, with attorney Frank Cassese confirming a resolution that lets owner Gary Thornton continue serving the community. Thornton expressed gratitude to legal counsel and city officials for their support. WFMJ

- ➤ Youngstown will host Ignite the Night Youngstown to celebrate the nation's 250th anniversary on July 5 with a free concert by the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre (funded by the Rotary Club), inviting residents to join in the festivities. The Vindicator
- ➤ Loop Youngstown purchased a vacant property at 805 Mahoning Avenue to create a new arts and culture center on the west side. The renovated space will include up to 36 artist studios, galleries and classrooms plus host open studios and monthly events that connect local talent. WFMJ
- ➤ A mastodon fossil, dug 95 years ago near Smith’s Pond, will be on display at Bond House from April 18 to June 29, arranged by the Canfield Historical Society. - ➤ YSU athletes met with local business and alumni leaders on Mar 31 at a networking event aimed at exploring opportunities after graduation. The event helped students build professional connections for future careers. WFMJ
- ➤ In North Jackson, first graders at Jackson-Milton Elementary collected 2,565 individually wrapped snacks for the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley van Tuesday, surpassing their goal of 2,000 snacks (the drive ran from March 9 during Kindness Month). The Vindicator

- ➤ A white paper on the Community Hospital Stabilization Act claims financial deals led to the decline of local hospitals and reduced care for families and workers in the valley.
