- ➤ A class-action lawsuit was filed by David McCullough from Garrettsville in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio on behalf of Insight Foundation employees after layoffs on March 28 left them without the pay or benefits they were owed—employees did not receive the 60-day notice required by the WARN Act. - ➤ Youngstown's iconic clock tower at the former Home Savings and Loan Building will soon show new backlit signs as WesBanco updates its branding after merging with Premier Bank. Documents submitted to the Department of Community Planning and Economic Development detail plans for two large signs (35'8″ x 5'5.5″), two smaller signs (12'2″ x 8'7.5″) and an entrance sign (22'1″ x 3'4.5″) to be placed at 275 W. - ➤ Reports by The Raymond John Wean Foundation show that homeownership increased and vacant homes dropped in Warren and Youngstown since 2022, with home sale prices more than doubling and new businesses and the numbers of minorities and women doubling — yet rising rents and stagnant wages have worsened poverty and deepened economic inequalities. - ➤ The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission started a new campaign this month to warn drivers about the dangers of distracted driving. State highway patrol data shows over 50,000 crashes since 2020, including 157 fatal ones that caused 168 deaths — Mahoning County had 1,238 crashes. WKBN
- ➤ At a 40-minute hearing Tuesday, Judge Anthony D’Apolito approved Caleb West’s move from Heartland Behavioral Healthcare to Horizon House— a community facility where the 42-year-old will receive treatment after spending over seven years at the state mental hospital following a felonious assault charge for allegedly stabbing his brother in 2016. - ➤ Campbell lost its longtime mayor when Mayor Brian Tedesco died in his sleep Tuesday night at age 67, council officials confirmed — he served as a councilman for over 20 years and was elected mayor in 2021. - ➤ Mercy Health and Cigna Healthcare reached a multi-year agreement that kept Cigna’s commercially insured patients in network at Mercy Health facilities effective April 1.
