  • Bishop Bonnar urges Catholics in the diocese to join Pope Leo XIV’s Prayer for Peace this Saturday, April 11, at six local churches from noon to 1 p.m. The Basilica of Saint John the Baptist in Canton will host a vigil from 7 to 8 p.m.  WFMJ
  • Boardman's newest bakery, The Bakehouse, welcomed local customers yesterday with a live event showcasing fresh baked treats + marking its grand opening as a new community spot.  WFMJ
  • Downtown Youngstown hosts a weekend of events from Friday, April 10 until Thursday, April 16, featuring a pop-up skatepark, live sports, concerts, and markets held at local venues like the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre and YSU Tennis Center. Residents can enjoy community activities for all ages.  WFMJ
  • Poland Village Gardeners Inc is offering a $125 personalized brick to support the community garden. Locals can reserve a brick by calling (330) 314-4778.  WFMJ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • City leaders in Sharon are discussing a data center project on a 17-acre Clark Street property that requires a zoning variance for a taller building. The zoning board meets Tuesday, April 14 at noon and the project is expected to create 134 jobs with full operations starting late 2027.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Youngstown Playhouse is staging Urinetown the Musical, a satirical show set in a future where a 20-year drought bans private restrooms. Tickets cost between $17 and $27 excluding fees and are available online, by phone or at the YourArts central box office at the DeYor Performing Arts Center.  WFMJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Trumbull Career & Technical Center is hosting its annual community night on April 23 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at 528 Educational Hwy in Warren — the free event will feature student-led exhibits, interactive activities, vendor offerings and resources from over 30 community partners.  WFMJ
  • Students in Northeast Ohio may receive cash from a $17.25 million settlement from a class action suit against PowerSchool for data privacy issues with its Naviance platform — eligible users who logged in between Aug. 18, 2021 and Jan. 23 must file claims by May 26.  WFMJ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new EV charging station is coming to Love’s Travel Stop on Route 62 in Hubbard, funded by $799,902 in federal NEVI funds + $939,016 from Love’s private match, increasing charging options along I-80 eastbound. ODOT announced the project as part of its initiative to boost local transportation resources.  WFMJ

SPORTS NEWS

  • YSU's experienced offensive line, which started more than 115 combined, delivered a solid performance during spring practice at Stambaugh Stadium as the team refined its lineup. Quarterback Beau Brungard credited the unit’s steady play for record-setting offensive numbers last fall.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Local high school sports teams recorded wins in softball, baseball, tennis, and volleyball. Fitch stayed unbeaten with a 12-2 win over Saluga while Poland rallied for two softball victories, Lakeview beat Mineral Ridge 10-3 in baseball, and West Branch and Howland excelled in tennis and volleyball.  Tribune Chronicle
