COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers worked Saturday morning on Youngstown highway ramps to pick up litter from both on and off ramps. City officials said they chose high-traffic spots for cleanup and hope the project, which involved partners like YSU + the Rotary Club, will become an annual event.  WFMJ
  • Angels for Animals is temporarily pausing dog adoptions and intake due to kennel cough concerns—applicants will be contacted later and stray dogs must be taken to the county pound. The shelter expects to resume services soon.  WFMJ
  • On Saturday, the community gathered at Youngstown Harley-Davidson to raise funds for Mike Ruozzo in his fight against cancer. The charity event—Pinstripe Palooza 2.0—featured live pinstriping by 15 local artists, a grill and chill with hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks, and an auction with a painting giveaway to support his care.  WYTV
  • An event at MCCTC gave children with disabilities a chance to enjoy modified ride-on toys — volunteers wired the cars Friday night and built custom seating on Saturday to meet each child’s needs.  WFMJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seaborn Elementary School in Mineral Ridge was named a 2025 Hall of Fame School by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators — one of 11 schools honored statewide. The school will be celebrated at Wednesday’s board meeting and at an awards event on June 16 in Columbus.  WYTV
  • Seaborn Elementary in Mineral Ridge was selected as one of 11 Ohio schools to earn the Hall of Fame honor by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators, a recognition that praised its strong teaching and community support. The award will be celebrated at a board meeting Wednesday and at an event in Columbus on June 16 — officials say the honor highlights years of quality education.  WYTV

  • Duda Farm Fresh Foods recalled over 1,500 four-pack cases of Marketside Celery sticks sold at Walmart in Ohio and Pennsylvania due to a possible listeria contamination from a best if used by date of March 23 — and no illnesses have been reported.  WFMJ

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Youngstown State women's bowling team won its first national championship on Saturday by defeating Jacksonville State 4-3 at Suncoast Bowling Center in Las Vegas. Head coach Doug Kuberski said the team, led by senior Jade Cote, built on earlier wins to clinch the title—marking the school’s first national title in any women's sport.  Tribune Chronicle
  • The Youngstown Phantoms clinched the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a 6 to 1 win over the US National Team Development Program U17s on Saturday—rewriting club records by closing the regular season with 42 wins and 86 points.
