- ➤ Thrive Mahoning Valley held a bike donation drive yesterday at Westside Bowl, collecting 50 bikes for its Pedal Forward Program that helps residents with transport and exercise. Supported by the Mahoning Valley Freedom Fighters & Youngstown Solidarity, the nonprofit now faces a growing waiting list. WFMJ
- ➤ Over 50 businesses and groups gathered last weekend at the Optimist Club of Bazetta on Hoagland Blackstub Road for the launch of Hearts and Hands United — a nonprofit to strengthen local bonds. Future events include a potluck on June 13 and a fall harvest market on Nov. 14. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Last Thursday, the main library hosted a farmers market at Wick Avenue where local vendors including Herbal Rayne Sourdough LLC sold sourdough bread, Bubble Babies seedlings, and produce (helping families grow their own food). The market will return on April 23. The Vindicator
- ➤ On Saturday, 100 women gathered at Sunrise Inn in Warren for the debut Sing-Along Brunch hosted by The Small District (17 women-owned businesses) featuring breakfast, dancing, and even an impromptu can-stacking contest; founder Angel Williams said more events are planned for June and August. - ➤ McDonald officials are launching the Millworkers Trail Project at Woodland Park to honor 105 years of local mill history (a $16,696 grant from Ohio History Connection supports playground upgrades and trail improvements). The work will begin this year and finish by 2027. The Vindicator
- ➤ Local train enthusiasts are heading to a model railroad shop in Austintown — attendees can browse unique collectibles and connect with fellow hobbyists. WFMJ
- ➤ Girard pinball players gathered at Past Times Arcade to enjoy Sunday Classics from the 1960s to the 1990s, hosted by the Steel Valley Pinball club. Vice President Jordan Fulton said the weekly competition attracts players of all ages and keeps the pinball hobby alive in the community. WFMJ

- ➤ Retired Hubbard librarian Mary Anne Russo earned the national 'I Love My Librarian Award' after a 42-year career that transformed the children’s room into a vibrant space. The library also received $10,000 in accessibility funding to boost programs for all users (including neurodiverse students) and will work with local schools on community projects. The Vindicator
- ➤ Warren's Harding High School FIRST Robotics Team E.L.I.T.E. 48 qualified for the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, Texas, April 29 to May 2 after scoring 96 qualification points at regional events including the FIRST Midwest Regional near Chicago & is preparing to travel. - ➤ Mary Anne Russo, a retired children's librarian, received the I Love My Librarian Award from the American Library Association after 42 years at Hubbard Public Library, where she transformed its children's room with community programs. - ➤ A section of northbound I-680 in Mahoning County will close Monday evening for a $58 million reconstruction project that lasts through summer 2027. Drivers are urged to follow detour routes via U.S. 62/state Route 7—U.S. 422 as the nearby Mahoning Avenue ramp is permanently closed. WFMJ
