- ➤ Kenneth David, a 75-year-old Medal of Honor recipient from Girard, shared his Vietnam heroism on May 7 when he risked his life to draw enemy fire and protect his comrades. He spoke to students recently about his actions and the lesson that bravery can save lives. WYTV
- ➤ Youngstown will host a Clothesline Project event on April 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Swanston Commons at 246 Broadway Ave.—Compass Family Services will use a visual display of shirts made by survivors and loved ones to raise awareness of abuse and violence. WYTV

- ➤ Last month a fatal crash on State Route 170 in Springfield Township claimed the lives of 15-year-old Jason and his mother Angela Brown—prompting the Daff family to speak on Friday as they mourned and rallied around 12-year-old Jayden, who was severely injured in the accident—while the community offered close support. - ➤ Brad Pipoly, a 64-year-old artist from Boardman, painted a detailed view of downtown Youngstown on Friday at the corner of Hazel and Commerce Streets as spring light highlighted Erie Terminal Place and the Gallagher Building—he changed his plan when the light brought out more details—and he plans to paint more landscapes at Millcreek MetroParks this summer as he prepares to turn 65 on Sunday. - ➤ Mahoning County Career and Technical Center’s Griffin Robotics Team 7882W is heading to Dallas, Texas, in May for the VEX V5 Robotics World Championship after qualifying by placing 21st at the state competition. Senior team members Madeline Moliterno, Landon Frank, and Dominic Andy have refined their robot—earning them a berth and a chance to compete with top global teams. The Vindicator

- ➤ Boardman Township trustees approved a resolution this week to use $122,000 from opioid settlement funds to renovate a donated property into the Clarence R. Smith Family Mahoning Valley First Responder Wellness Center—an initiative to offer mental health support and training for first responders. Trustees will also accept an additional $464,000 from Mahoning County when approved to further aid the project. The Vindicator
- ➤ At Wednesday’s council meeting, the Canfield Police Department honored officer Emily Roth for saving a woman’s life during a welfare check on March 8—she turned off a running car and led the woman to safety. The meeting also saw the swearing in of a new officer from Lowellville and promotion of sergeant Chad DeBarr, while police briefed on April 5 vehicle burglaries. The Vindicator
- ➤ Youngstown’s water commissioner said he was flabbergasted when the bid from J.S. Bova Excavating LLC for a water main and lead line replacement project came in at $8,247,116—less than half of the revised cost of $16.78 million. The board will review the bid and is expected to approve the project at its May 8 meeting with work set to begin in June or July. The Vindicator
