- ➤ Community members can join a tree planting at 10 a.m. Saturday at Packard Park near the children's area on Mahoning Ave (community event), the Vienna Historical Society hosts local author Paul Rohrbaugh Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Copper Penny, and St. Rose Church holds a benefit bake sale Sunday in Girard. - ➤ Thrive Mahoning Valley’s Youngstown Farmer’s Market set up outside Wick Avenue Library on Thursday. The new market, run in collaboration with local organizations, supports local farmers and improves food access (it operates the second and fourth Thursday of every month). WFMJ
- ➤ The Autism Society of the Mahoning Valley will receive a $100,000 grant from the Youngstown Foundation to support its growth as it opens a new downtown office at 241 W. Federal St — the funding will help the nonprofit meet the needs of individuals with autism across all stages. WFMJ

- ➤ Albert Street was closed Thursday afternoon after a semitrailer hit a utility pole (causing downed lines) and the road between Star and State streets will remain closed until the pole is replaced. WFMJ

- ➤ Niles schools held a memorial tree planting at Niles McKinley High School Thursday morning to honor 16-year-old Chase Miller, who died of cancer last February. Family, school board members and local partners planted a Japanese Kanzan cherry tree (a tribute meant to inspire scholarships recognizing character) to remember him. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Drivers near the Canfield Fairgrounds may see emergency vehicles & sirens today as YSU students participate in a mass casualty training exercise from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. organized by the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services to practice emergency response. WFMJ
- ➤ The Girard school board cut several staff positions on April 23, 2026, impacting operations at local schools. The decision was reached during a board meeting and may lead to further staffing adjustments. WFMJ
- ➤ The Girard Board of Education voted to cut one technology assistant and one assistant athletic director position effective June 30 to address financial challenges due to rising costs + reduced state funding + lower enrollment, according to Superintendent Bryan O’Hara. WFMJ
