CULTURE NEWS

  • POP! Art Books Culture at 6949 Market Street in Boardman celebrated its 13th Independent Bookstore Day on Saturday, Apr. 25 with a store-wide sale (20 percent off most items) and book signings by local authors Michael Prelee (11 a.m.–3 p.m.) and Eliza Osborn (1 p.m.–4 p.m.).  WFMJ
  • A white oak tree was planted outside the Little Red Schoolhouse to mark America’s 250th year and honor local heritage. The tree, placed by the Poland Historical Society at 4515 Center Road in Lowellville, joins the Heritage Tree Program as a lasting legacy of living history.  WFMJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Youngstown State University (YSU) Steubenville open house was held on Saturday, Apr. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4000 Sunset Boulevard, letting community members meet faculty and explore degree programs. The campus announced its upcoming associate and certificate programs for fall (including nursing, IT, and more).  WFMJ
  • The On Board! Board Training Workshop will be held Thursday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grand Resort in Howland. Nonprofit leaders can register for the program (cost $60 per person) to learn governance best practices and earn board match credit.  The Vindicator
