- ➤ A man suffered a broken leg after he was struck by a car on Friday evening on Sunset Boulevard at Midlothian Boulevard on the South Side; a police officer saw him at 8:56 p.m. and the victim said he was hit by a light-skinned driver in a red or burgundy SUV who got out briefly before driving off, and he was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. - ➤ The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation hosted its 32nd Community Holocaust Commemoration at the Mahoning County Courthouse rotunda on Tuesday, where survivors’ families lit six candles to remember 6 million Holocaust victims. Rabbi Seth Sternstein and Rabbi Joseph Schonberger stressed the need to pass on survivors’ memories—while many students were honored in a contest recognizing their writings and art. The Vindicator

- ➤ The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center in Canfield today is breaking ground on a $7 million 13000 square foot health and wellness facility that will offer outpatient mental and physical health services along with a school based clinic and a training site for local health workers. Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel and superintendent John Zehentbauer said funding includes a state grant of $5,030,814 and nearly $2 million in center funds—this center will serve over 6,500 people annually when completed in August—supporting expanded community health training. Officials said the probe began when tire rims not matching township vehicles were found in a township garage and an internal audit uncovered further discrepancies. WKBN
- ➤ The family of Akil Drake, who died during the Realty Tower explosion last May, asked a Mahoning County Probate Court to seal documents related to their wrongful death settlement with the building owner, property manager, and gas company. - ➤ Poland Township Police Department has added Canine Sal to its narcotics detection team after he was rescued from the streets of Youngstown and passed evaluation by a local canine training group.
