CRIME NEWS

  • A wanted man surrendered Tuesday at a motel on Market Street when police K‑9 Jack—helped by officers from Boardman and Youngstown—spurred him to comply with arrest orders related to parole violations for aggravated robbery and assault.  WKBN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio Lt-Gov Jim Tressel will attend a groundbreaking for a new 13,000-square-foot Health and Wellness Center at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center in Canfield on Wednesday; the center will be partly funded by over $5 million from the Appalachian Community Innovation Centers Grant Program and will provide mental, physical and career technical services to more than 6,500 residents annually with construction finishing by August 2026.  WFMJ
  • East Palestine City School District filed a lawsuit in federal court in Youngstown against Norfolk Southern—accusing the railroad of not repaying emergency response costs and failing to meet financial commitments for new athletic facilities and a community wellness center. Superintendent James Rook and attorney Ashlie Case Sletvold detailed the claims during a video news event on April 30.  WFMJ
  • The Division of Cannabis Control has issued an alert on a lot of cannabis gummy edibles because they contain edible glitter not listed on the label—Farmaceutical RX removed the product from dispensaries in Hubbard and East Liverpool—consumers are urged to return or discard any remaining gummies bought between Feb. 18th and March 12th.  WYTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bread sold in Ohio and five other states was recalled after the FDA found glass fragments on bread made by Upper Crust Bakery that was sold in Giant Eagle and Market District stores between April 7 and April 12; Giant Eagle removed the product, advised those who bought it to throw it out or return receipts for refunds—no injuries have been reported.  WKBN
