- ➤ Child welfare agencies reported a rising need for foster parents as more children require temporary care in the community. Local organizations are urging interested residents to learn about the process and explore support options. WFMJ
- ➤ The Philoptochos ladies hosted a vendor market on May 3 to raise money for local and national aid. MaryLyn McNally explained the group’s mission and how proceeds will benefit those in need. WFMJ
- ➤ Local child services report a shortage of foster homes during National Foster Care Awareness Month; Trumbull County has 187 children in care with only 42 licensed homes — advocates say nearly anyone can qualify and receive monthly support. WFMJ

- ➤ The Cover Down Fund announced the Purple Heart Gary Gutelius Memorial Scholarship for 11 seniors, each receiving $1,500 for local university studies (Youngstown State and Walsh). - ➤ Former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar, a Boardman graduate, returned to the hospital after complications following a liver transplant last November. He said via social media after a Browns stadium groundbreaking in Brook Park on Thursday that he plans to complete his procedure soon (after pushing himself too hard). WFMJ
