COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Komara Jewelers has pledged to donate 14% of every in-store purchase to the Hope Foundation when mentioned at checkout until May 31; the announcement was made in April and is aimed at helping local families with medical costs (store located at 3649 Canfield Rd in Canfield).  WFMJ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Primanti Bros. Restaurant and Bar offers a Mother’s Day special — mothers get a free classic sandwich when a family member spends at least $10 on other food, available on May 10 at select Valley locations.  WFMJ
  • Mark Lamoncha, CEO of Humtown Products from Columbiana and Boardman, received the U.S. Small Business Person of the Year award at the White House Monday and will join a National Small Business Week event at Ohio State University in Columbus Wednesday.  Tribune Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • YSU students competed in the national Additive in Steel Competition — hosted by America Makes in Youngstown — and showcased their steel-based 3D printing skills. The AddiSteel Engineering team, led by local faculty, used advanced design to create a multi-tool for everyday carry.  The Vindicator
  • YSU announced a $500,000 donation from the Centofanti Charitable Foundation Tuesday afternoon to keep the Centofanti Symposium lecture series free for the next 10 years, building on over $3.2 million in support that has brought national voices to campus.  The Vindicator
  • Fourth graders from eight schools visited the Canfield Fairgrounds at the first Ag Day where OSU Extension and Mahoning County Farm Bureau led 18 interactive stations to teach them about food production & farming practices.  The Vindicator

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers using Boardman-Canfield Road face overnight delays on U.S. Route 224 from Monday, May 11 through Wednesday, May 13 as crews install three sets of bridge beams (causing 15-minute stops between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.) in a project funded by turnpike tolls.  WFMJ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Local high schools posted results today in softball, baseball, and tennis. Lakeview rallied for a 5-4 win over Poland in softball, LaBrae shut out Crestview 7-0 in baseball, and Poland clinched the NE8 conference in boys tennis, showcasing standout pitching + hitting.  The Vindicator
