- ➤ Downtown Youngstown's DoubleTree Hotel owners filed a lawsuit last week seeking over $1.2 million after the Realty Building explosion in May 2024 forced a 75-day closure that resulted in one death and lost revenue from guest relocations+ the suit names several companies for alleged negligence while defendants have not yet responded. - ➤ A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty for his role in the Sept. 6 fatal shooting at the Compass West apartment complex in Austintown that killed Vincent Tarver and wounded a woman, and Judge Maureen Sweeney sentenced him Tuesday to 11 to 15 years in prison (the sentence follows the attorneys’ recommendation and came after he was charged as an adult). - ➤ Mudvayne will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its debut album L.D.50 with a 30-city tour that includes a Sept 17th concert at the Covelli Centre—tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at the arena’s Southwoods Health box office and through Ticketmaster. - ➤ Mudvayne will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its debut album L.D. 50 with a 30-city tour that includes a Sept. 17 concert at Covelli Centre — the album went gold after selling over 500,000 copies and its hits reached the top 40 on Billboard’s mainstream rock chart. They will join Static-X, celebrating its 25th anniversary for Wisconsin Death Trip, and Vended, with tickets from $39.50 to $79.50 going on sale Friday at 10 a.m. and an online presale on Thursday. - ➤ Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel visited YSU Tuesday at the Williamson College of Business to talk about plans to keep good workers and attract new ones across the state. He, a former YSU president (Tressel), met with local business, education and community leaders to launch (Ohio's Workforce Playbook) for workforce development. WKBN
- ➤ Vienna Township voters approved a new five-year, 3.5 mill fire levy by a vote of 418 to 405, replacing the two levies that generated $219,909.48 each year and cost $50.32 for a $100,000 home. The levy will fund part-time employees and cover maintenance for around-the-clock fire coverage at an estimated cost of $366,000 per year — Fire Chief Gus Birch warned that without it the department could not provide an ambulance. - ➤ Youngstown’s mayoral race is extremely tight as incumbent Jamael Tito Brown leads 3rd Ward Councilwoman Samantha Turner by 61 votes according to unofficial results from the Mahoning County Board of Elections on Tuesday—53 provisional votes and pending absentee ballots may affect the final tally when results are certified on May 19th.
