- ➤ Over 100 vendors at Mr. Darby's Vintage and Antiques in Boardman fundraised $1,000 through a basket raffle to aid community members in need. Owners Robert and Karen Neapolitan presented the check to St. Vincent DePaul last Friday at their Market Street location. WFMJ
- ➤ Canfield Fair will allow alcohol sales for the first time in its 180th year, offering a beer garden with rules requiring guests to purchase drinks in a designated area (staff will enforce them). Board members say revenue should cover maintenance costs and plan to secure liquor licenses before Sept. 2. WFMJ

- ➤ Ultium Cells may bring back 700 laid off employees by the end of summer if market conditions continue to improve; production is expected to increase from July to September as the company upgrades its machinery. The plan depends on evolving market trends and support such as the EV tax credit. WFMJ
- ➤ A local entrepreneur was named U.S. small business person of 2026 on May 8, earning recognition for his business success and contributions to the community. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Austintown Schools thanked teachers by launching a food truck and distributing lunch boxes on Friday, May 8. The truck (featuring the school’s falcon mascot) was funded by a grant and will support a new culinary management course for high school students next school year. WFMJ
- ➤ The Youngstown Diocese named Sister Mary McCormick as interim president of Ursuline High School, effective July 1. Born in Austintown and a former student of Ursuline, she will work with the administration, faculty, and staff to uphold the school's legacy. Tribune Chronicle

- ➤ On Friday, Quaker City Concrete in Leetonia installed a new baghouse dust control system to reduce harmful emissions from its precast operations. The upgrade, supported by $100,000 OAQDA bond financing (in partnership with WesBanco), improved workplace safety as new clean air rules took effect. WFMJ

- ➤ Major lane closures will affect the Howland Center intersection where SR 46 meets East Market starting Thursday, May 14 until late October, as crews work to improve SR 46 (detour routes are marked). Drivers are advised to use SR 82 and Howland Wilson Road (for smoother travel). WFMJ
