  • Panera Bread launched its third annual Chip in for Children’s Mental Health campaign yesterday, with $1 from every Chocolate Chipper cookie sold funding a community outreach education coordinator from Akron Children’s Hospital who helps teachers, counselors and staff use social and emotional learning resources for students affected by trauma—campaign runs through Sunday at Covelli-owned bakery-cafes in Akron, Canton and the Mahoning Valley.  WYTV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 9-year-old Daw Elementary student was riding his bicycle when a Ford F-150 driven by a Lisbon resident struck and killed him Saturday at 5:45 p.m. at the end of a private drive off state Route 7 in Madison Township—emergency responders and grief counselors have arrived to support Wellsville Schools.  The Vindicator

  • A new Grocery Outlet store will open in Austintown mid-October in the former JCPenney building, and hiring for 25 positions will begin this August—joining other locations in Boardman and New Castle.  WYTV

CRIME NEWS

  • Boardman police arrested Keontae Thomas (26) at Doral Drive Walmart on Saturday night after reports that stolen cards were used, and he will appear in court today facing charges of identity fraud and drug possession.  WKBN

  • South Carolina native Lee Brice will return to his second hometown for a show at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre in September. His brother Lewis + Jackson Dean will open the September 18 concert as tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through Ticketmaster.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Country star Lee Brice—who has eight chart-topping hits—will perform at Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre on Sept. 18, marking his return after a 2023 show supporting Kid Rock. His brother Lewis and Jackson Dean will open the concert, and tickets will be on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.  The Vindicator

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on Mahoning Avenue between Meridian Road and Interstate 680 are facing delays from a paving project that started May 12 and will continue through June 30 (with lane restrictions in effect). Deputy Director Charles T. Shasho advised drivers to exercise caution and follow posted detours during their commutes.  WFMJ

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Ohio Department of Health started its spring oral rabies vaccination campaign in northeast Ohio today by distributing 271,000 vaccine-laden baits — aimed at immunizing wild raccoons — in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, and Ashtabula counties through May 20, weather permitting.  WFMJ
