- ➤ An officer on patrol saw a blue ATV rider doing a wheelie at North Belle Vista and Mahoning Avenues at 5:04 p.m. Saturday on the West Side— the rider in a white shirt, black jeans, and black half-helmet caused a car to swerve and led police on a lengthy chase that ended near Vestal Road, police reported. - ➤ A man reported his car was robbed on Mahoning Avenue near Belle Vista at 5:35 p.m. Friday when young men approached his vehicle and took $1,000 in cash—police later stopped a black Subaru and detained five suspects before releasing them after no weapons were found. The Vindicator
- ➤ Steve Kent—former Austintown trustee and Poland police officer—asked Judge John Durkin to grant his early release four months early from his one-year sentence for tampering with evidence that began on Sept. 23 after attorney A. - ➤ Youngstown City Council’s CPED Committee reviewed a list showing that a 2023 revolving loan program — which used $2 million and provided 26 loans to generate $4 million in investment and 72 jobs — helped struggling local businesses stay open. CPED Director Nikki Posterli said the program saved many businesses and the loan funds will be reused as payments are made. WYTV

- ➤ Six new trustees were appointed to the YSU Foundation Board to serve a three-year term, and all have strong ties to the university through scholarships, donations, and community service. - ➤ Mahoning County Commissioners questioned a $36,000 raise for deputy Clerk of Courts Jennifer Ciccone, who received the raise in April just four months after starting plus an extra $10,799 in retroactive pay that raised her salary from $120,000 to $156,000. Commissioners including Geno DiFabio and Carol Rimedio-Righetti said they will hold more meetings over the raise even though they do not control how department funds are spent. WFMJ
- ➤ Attorneys for Youngstown and the estate argued before the Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday, May 13, saying the city delayed its statutory immunity defense in a wrongful death suit seeking up to $5 million— the court will decide later if the delay waived the city's protection from liability.
