- ➤ Youngstown Police and the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office are investigating a possible overdose after officers discovered two people dead in a bedroom on South Jackson Street on the East Side Tuesday at 11:44 a.m., when they responded to a lockout call and found a plastic cup with an unknown liquid and a package with white powder near the bed. - ➤ John White, a Youngstown mayoral candidate, waived his right to a preliminary hearing in court—his case for two felonies was bound over to a Trumbull County grand jury as he faces charges of disrupting public service and domestic violence following a May 2 arrest at his Liberty home. - ➤ Live Nation is launching a '$30 Ticket to Summer' promotion for select concerts at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre starting May 21 with general sales at 10 a.m. and early access on May 20 for T-Mobile and Rakuten members—taxes will be added at checkout—. The promotion includes shows by Coheed and Cambria and Mastodon on June 1, Rick Springfield with John Waite, Wang Chung, and Paul Young on June 28, Train on August 12, and Cody Jinks on September 20. - ➤ Since 2006, the Zoccali Memorial Scholarship golf outing at Austintown Local Schools has awarded over $100,000 to future teachers while growing from a $1,500 award (in honor of retired teacher, coach and principal Anthony Zoccali). The 2025 event will be held on August 9 and is expected to draw a strong community of golfers and supporters. WFMJ
- ➤ The Youngstown City School Board approved a resolution that lets Superintendent Jeremy Batchelor develop a Reduction in Force Plan for the 2025—26 school year to address declining enrollment, increased spending, and staffing needs. The board also approved changes to administrative salaries—no staff will be immediately affected as the district prepares to merge schools by 2026 to better manage its resources. WFMJ
- ➤ Ryan Dunn, a Struthers City Schools bus driver, will compete in the International School Bus Safety Road-E-O in Austin, Texas on June 28 and 29 after placing first against 41 other drivers at the state event. He is the only competitor from the Youngstown region—representing local schools at this international challenge. WFMJ

- ➤ Legislators asked the Department of Justice to investigate the March closures of two Trumbull County hospitals after Insight Health took over operations from Steward Health Care—officials cited possible Medicare and Medicaid fraud and misuse of federal funds that led to nearly 700 staff furloughs and disrupted local care.
