- ➤ On Friday morning at the New Middletown Farmers and Sportsmen Club, Kendall Williams—a fourth-grader from Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary—and about 30 students fished with local officers who helped them learn to catch and release fish, easing their fears and building trust. The Vindicator
- ➤ Bird watchers and outdoor enthusiasts will attend the third annual Big Birding weekend from May 23 through May 25 at Mosquito Lake State Park, where speakers and guided hikes will offer birding tips and educational programs. Hoagland Blackstub Road will be closed from 8 a.m. May 23 to 8 p.m. May 26—organizers say the free event will boost wildlife awareness—while hands-on activities are planned at several park sites. - ➤ Police said that early Friday morning gunshots were heard on Draper St. SE in Warren and a flipped vehicle was later found at Draper and Benton streets—inside, a man was dead. WKBN
- ➤ Police arrested Kendric Smith on Wednesday at Pine Tree Plaza after witnesses said he entered Dollar Tree shirtless and made threats—officers recovered an unloaded revolver, ammunition, and a crack pipe as he now faces several charges. WKBN

- ➤ A local nonprofit is repurposing old South High School into an education and career technical center—helping 18 Ohio educators learn new 3D printing skills online. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City council will consider legislation on Wednesday to move ahead with $1.56 million in improvements for Marshall Street, Salt Springs Road, and Belle Vista Avenue starting in August and to authorize a contract for water main and lead line replacement in the Buckeye Plat neighborhood—with 80% of the cost covered by state funding that leaves no expense for the city. The council will also vote on nearly $930,203 in purchases for vehicles and equipment for the street, water, and park departments. The Vindicator
- ➤ The ribbon was cut Friday morning on the $4.6 million upgrade to Waddell Park in Niles, which now features a splash pad, playground, gazebo and LED-lit baseball fields—Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz said the project finished ahead of schedule after delays with grant approvals and design work.
