- ➤ Saturday, the Hubbard Police Department hosted a memorial ceremony in the administration building’s council chambers to honor officers who died on duty (the event included poetic tributes and the reading of fallen officers’ names). Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Sebring’s Evan Jagger of Buckeye Water to Trail Adventures visited three Mahoning River launch sites (Foster MetroPark, Thomas Swift MetroPark, and Niles Riverside Park) Sunday to promote National Safe Boating Week by urging locals to wear life jackets, check weather conditions, and help clean the river. - ➤ Second Harvest Food Bank reports a surge in calls and mobile pantry use in Mahoning Valley as 13,000 more Ohioans face SNAP cuts amid rising costs. The organization says seniors and families may struggle with summer expenses (Ohio figures). WFMJ

- ➤ On Sunday, hundreds joined the fourth annual Bike Belmont at Wick Park to ride distances from five to 32 miles with a police escort, raise funds for future events, and promote inclusion (supporting special needs riders with runner/pushers) along Belmont Avenue. Tribune Chronicle

- ➤ A local researcher uncovered that Revolutionary War veteran John Gordon, buried without a headstone at Champion Center Cemetery in Champion, is central to a reexamination of the area’s early history. His pension record and sworn testimony have renewed efforts to locate his grave for proper recognition. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Saturday morning, the William Holmes McGuffey Historical Society met at Denny’s on Belmont Ave where Mark Dawidziak discussed Edgar Allan Poe (with Laurie James greeting guests with accordion music) and board chairman Richard Scarsella announced that Coitsville Township trustees bought the McGuffey Wildlife Preserve from Mill Creek MetroParks for $1. - ➤ Local PBS secured new funding after an earlier loss that affected its programming & community service. The station announced the funds on May 17 and expects the boost to help sustain its local broadcasts. WFMJ
- ➤ A non-profit began its labyrinth walk season Sunday with guided tours at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, July 16, August 20, and September 17 and at 2 p.m. on Oct. 18 at 4280 Shields Road — the walks offer prayer, reflection, and healing. WFMJ

- ➤ Austintown Fitch High School held its 2026 graduation at Greenwood Falcon Stadium Sunday morning (with 375 graduates receiving $10.7 million in scholarship offers) as principal Salvatore Maiorana and senior president Jaden Wallace celebrated the students' hard work and resilience. - ➤ Drivers face new turning restrictions today at the intersection of State Route 46 and East Market Street in Howland Township as the Ohio Department of Transportation directs them to detour via Route 82 and Howland Wilson Road through late October 2026; full improvements finish by Oct. 2027.
