- ➤ Girard will host a 100-year celebration Saturday noon to 7 p.m. with kids activities, live bands, food trucks and free shuttle near South Elruth Avenue, Park Drive and Moser Road. Warren residents can attend the Akron Children’s Bike Smart event at Urban Tap from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ Kennsington Grille at Kennsington Golf Club is offering a 10% discount on dine-in and carryout orders for National EMS Week from May 17 to May 23. Guests must show a valid professional ID or wear a uniform, and alcoholic drinks are not included. WFMJ
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Monday a gas line broke during construction at Wedgewood Plaza in Austintown, prompting a precautionary evacuation for businesses and customers at 3:45 p.m. Officials continued investigating to determine which establishments are affected. WFMJ

- ➤ Owner and baker Wendy Fassoulas opened her new donut shop in Niles on May 18 (celebrating a grand opening) where she offers a range of fresh donuts and goodies. WFMJ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Youngstown Bishop David Bonnar will hold a final closing Mass today at 5:00 p.m. at Saint Matthias Church (915 Cornell Street) to mark its reclassification for secular use after 53 years, following a February request by local church leaders. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Howland High School senior Bo Kuang is set to graduate later this month and earn two Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics and computer science from YSU just weeks later – he plans to pursue a career in math research afterward. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ State Rep. Monica Robb Blasdel accompanied five 4-H students (Justin Bailey, Atlee Brinker, Aidan Frye, Caroline Moser, and Audrey Wilson) to the Ohio Statehouse to attend the House Agriculture Committee hearing and learn about the legislative process. WFMJ
- ➤ Austintown’s Falco Tech FIRST Robotics Competition Team 3193 won first place at the Ohio State Robotics Championship on Saturday, May 16 in New Albany. The team, now community-based (accepting Mahoning Valley K-12 students), competed among the state’s top 32 teams. WFMJ
- ➤ YSU Army ROTC Program awarded more than $51,000 in scholarships (including ROTC memorial, alumni, and military association funds) at its annual breakfast in Youngstown, recognizing cadets' excellence in academics and leadership. WFMJ

- ➤ At Monday’s Hubbard City Council meeting, residents voiced concerns over Mayor Ben Kyle's signed nondisclosure agreement and unclear details about Project Milo (a proposed data center). Michael Neenan answered many community questions raised during the session. WFMJ
- ➤ Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel visited Austintown-based Xaloy on Monday, May 18 to highlight WorkOhio (a program connecting Ohioans with job opportunities). The company, which has 480 employees worldwide including 180 locally, is expanding its product lines and research center. Tribune Chronicle
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Animal Charity of Ohio in Boardman warned pet owners on Monday, May 18 after handling several heat-related emergencies involving dogs, two of which died. The nonprofit advised locals to look for heatstroke signs and keep pets indoors when temperatures reach the upper 80s. WFMJ
