ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car crashed into a pole and knocked down wires on Wilson Avenue in Youngstown early Tuesday at about 4 a.m.—no injuries were reported as police and firefighters responded and closed the road.  WKBN
  • Five fire departments responded to an 800 block Cunningham Road house fire in Perry Township around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday—firefighters used a tanker to control the flames and remain on scene investigating the cause while not confirming if anyone was hurt.  WKBN

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Youngstown Business Incubator hosted the Advanced Manufacturing User Expo at Eastwood Event Centre in Niles where over 200 representatives from industry, government, and education joined panel discussions and live demos on 3D printing. Officials said the event helped local companies learn how additive manufacturing can boost their competitiveness — with NASA and the Department of Defense among those present.  The Vindicator

CRIME NEWS

  • Jermaine Bunn Sr., 48, was found guilty of federal gun charges after police discovered a semiautomatic handgun in an SUV during an October call — his sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 16.  WKBN
  • Treshaunti Brown, wanted in connection to a 2023 theft, was arrested Monday at a Boardman store during a theft in progress and now faces felony charges of identity fraud and theft plus a misdemeanor for misuse of a credit card—her pretrial hearing is set for June 10.  WYTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fitch High School’s Mock Trial team watched oral arguments at the 7th District Court of Appeals last week (including Judge Carol A. Robb, Cheryl L. Waite, Mark A. Hanni, and Katelyn Dickey) and later asked the court judges questions about how the law works. The visit gave the students a clear look into the legal system (the court is on West Federal Street downtown).  The Vindicator
  • The Catholic Diocese of Youngstown announced Patrick Lowry as the new president of Saint Joseph the Provider School. He will start his role on July 1 and brings over 25 years of experience in education plus time working as press secretary for Congressman Tim Ryan.  WYTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Biologists with the U.S. Department of Agriculture began dropping rabies vaccine baits from fixed-wing helicopters and ground vehicles near Elser Airport in Beaver Township a week ago and will continue until Friday to control raccoon rabies in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. They will release nearly 750,000 baits across the region between Lake Erie — and the Ohio River while targeting urban areas in Trumbull, Mahoning and Ashtabula counties.  WYTV
  • Officer Tyler Beck and partner Shelby from Liberty’s K-9 team won first in apprehension and second in obedience in the Akron Police Department’s K-9 Challenge on Saturday—where about 10 teams from Northeast Ohio competed.  WYTV

  • High school softball district semifinal games produced wins in multiple divisions, including Austintown Fitch’s 11-run win over Stow-Munroe Falls and strong efforts in Divisions V, VI, and VII. Many winning teams will face their next opponents today in district finals as they advance in the tournament — the matchups are expected to be tight.  Tribune Chronicle
