- ➤ Noelle Venerose from Hubbard is competing for the Super Mom title in a contest by NewBeauty Magazine that supports Children's Miracle Network. - ➤ United Way of Trumbull County honored community leaders and nonprofit supporters at Eastwood Event Centre on Thursday. - ➤ A Cleveland-based tire and auto repair chain has been approved for a new 6,500 sqft facility on 1.5 acres at 6200 Mahoning Avenue in Austintown, located in front of Home Depot and near Mercy Health Austintown. The site will host 8 repair bays and holds a stormwater permit in effect through April 2028. WFMJ
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Local leaders met in Austintown as Austintown trustees and the regional chamber discussed future economic growth that includes a sewer connection on Route 46 to support 100 new homes and modest commercial projects, while also addressing housing affordability and community needs. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local schools and libraries will offer free meals for kids throughout the summer break as part of the Seamless Summer USDA program. Schedules vary, with meals available at locations in Austintown, Campbell, and Youngstown. WFMJ
- ➤ A Mahoning County warning system is boosting school attendance by addressing issues like transportation and family struggles in Youngstown and Boardman. Officials say the program closed 500 cases this year (often leading to counseling or community service) and will build more partnerships to keep students in school. WFMJ
- ➤ Howland’s Cover Down Fund held a banquet Tuesday night at Salvatore’s to award 11 seniors a $1,500 scholarship and a $250 check for college expenses. The fund, started in 2022 by Herm Breuer to honor Gary Gutelius, supports local students’ educational goals. The Vindicator

- ➤ Austintown officials reported a sewage leak on May 21 and are seeking state help to address the issue — cleanup plans will be shared soon. WFMJ
- ➤ Austintown Township officials say that a sewage leak discovered in August 2024 at N. Beverly and N. Yorkshire remains unresolved, posing a health risk with strong odors and puddles. Township Administrator Mark D’Apolito said he is working with the property owner, EPA, and Rep. Lauren McNally to fix the issue. WFMJ
