- ➤ Commissioners honored the Persayus Way Project (led by Million Perry-Phipher) for its cleanup and youth support efforts in Youngstown by awarding a proclamation award that recognizes the nonprofit's work helping local youth reach their full potential. WFMJ
- ➤ Mahoning County DAV in Austintown needs scooter donations for its veteran mobility program. The organization says it has only three scooters left and asks potential donors to call (330-720-0553) to help meet the shortfall. WFMJ
- ➤ A new shelter (serving homeless and at risk veterans) is set to open soon in Youngstown. Officials say the facility will provide safe housing and vital support services to those in need. WFMJ
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Capriotti's franchisees from Canfield and Niles—Amber and Preston Walley—were named Franchise Partners of the Year at the chain's 50th anniversary convention in Las Vegas, and they will soon open a third location in Austintown while Canfield's Khaylah Brown was honored as General Manager of the Year. - ➤ Rulli Bros. will now open seven days a week, including Sundays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at its Austintown and Boardman stores starting May 24, while continuing to close on holidays to meet shoppers' needs. WFMJ
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ East High School celebrated its final senior class on Thursday with a Senior Clap Out before merging with Chaney High to form Youngstown Unified High School next fall. The new school will offer enhanced education programs and modern facilities for local scholars. WFMJ
- ➤ The Sharon robotics team left on Friday for a global competition to showcase its skills against international peers. The team, representing local expertise, will bring back valuable insights after the event. WFMJ
- ➤ YSU sorority member Maggie Byers earned national acclaim after receiving the Florence Hood Miner Award from Delta Zeta Sorority for her leadership, scholarship and service on campus and in Youngstown. - ➤ At its board meeting on Monday, May 11, the YSU Foundation appointed new trustees — William A.
