COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bugs ‘n’ Brews will run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Westside Bowl (2617 Mahoning Avenue) where guests make curio cabinet miniatures and $10 from each $45 ticket supports the Boys and Girls Club.  WFMJ
  • McDonald resident John Muckridge raised funds for scholarships at McDonald High School by placing 140 flags since Memorial Day weekend; his project was approved by village council and will include a community cleanup day on June 13 at 9 a.m.  The Vindicator
  • Memorial Classic Cluster is a six-day dog show that features over 200 breeds and draws 1,000 to 3,000 dog owners to the Lawrence County Fairgrounds (464 Midway Rd in New Castle) from Tuesday, May 19 through today. Sunday's shows include breed competitions judged under American Kennel Club standards.  WFMJ
  • Thousands attended the Men's Rally of the Valley on May 24 for worship and fellowship in Mahoning Valley — Michael Neenan said the rally united local community members.  WFMJ
  • Assistant manager Dylan Barnes of Phantom Fireworks offered safety tips for lighting fireworks yesterday (May 24) to guide locals on safe practice during celebrations. Barnes encouraged careful handling and compliance with local firework guidelines.  WFMJ
  • United Way of Trumbull County held its annual meeting on Thursday at the Eastwood Event Centre to honor nonprofits, businesses, educators and volunteers while preparing future community support + local art projects and awards emphasized the theme Making Our Mark, inspired by the book The Dot.  The Vindicator

CULTURE NEWS

  • Henry Lane Jr. donated 1.4 acres of land along Mahoning Avenue for Pioneer Cemetery (the oldest public burial ground in Warren), which holds the graves of early settlers and veterans. The Trumbull County Historical Society is digitizing records to preserve the site’s local heritage.  Tribune Chronicle
  • Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band performed Friday at Rocket Arena in Cleveland with a set mixing classic rock with pointed messages. The show featured the song 'Youngstown' with a red-lit stage tribute that recalled our local industrial roots.  Tribune Chronicle

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Graphite One announced plans to move its electric vehicle facility from Weathersfield Township to Ashtabula County — a decision that could mean missing out on 150 jobs. The Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber said local businesses might still benefit from construction work and supply chain contracts if the project advances.  WFMJ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Youngstown State University's Army ROTC program recognized cadets' academic and military achievements at its annual spring awards breakfast, awarding over $51,000 in scholarships and honors. The program offers leadership training and career preparation for students pursuing various majors.  The Vindicator

  • Holly Lewis, American Legion Ohio’s second commander, delivered remarks at the Memorial Day ceremony held at The Inn at Poland Way, honoring service members like West Virginia National Guard Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, who died in the line of duty.
