- ➤ The Boardman Memorial Day service gathered over 100 community members Monday morning at Boardman Park after a parade on Market Street, where keynote Jerre Patterson (a decorated Marine veteran) honored local servicemembers. The Vindicator
- ➤ The Youngstown Diocese responded to Pope Leo XIV’s Encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity) on AI ethics. Bishop David J. Bonnar said the diocese has set up a committee to study guidelines following a recent AI summit. WFMJ
- ➤ Veterans and families gathered on Monday at the Warren Community Amphitheatre for a Memorial Day ceremony honoring the fallen; Navy veterans Mike Salcone (102) and Jeffrey Littell (104) were recognized, and a wreath was laid in the Mahoning River to remember local service members lost in past conflicts. - ➤ Campbell held its Memorial Day program Monday morning next to Campbell Memorial High School’s Veterans Monument (280 Sixth St) to honor fallen local veterans with keynote remarks from Chief Warrant Officer Four Robert R. - ➤ Fifth graders at South Range Middle School launched the Paw Power campaign to help All About the Pawz by collecting donations until May 28 and hosting a birthday event for shelter dog Cleo on June 3 from 8 a.m. to noon at the school (donation boxes are set up at the school offices). WFMJ
- ➤ Community members gathered Monday morning in a Girard cemetery to honor fallen heroes at a Memorial Day ceremony. City leaders, veterans & local students shared readings and music to emphasize remembering the sacrifices made by service members and their families. WFMJ

- ➤ Schwebel Baking Company is holding open interviews today at the Holiday Inn in Boardman to hire full-time seasonal production workers for the busy season; candidates must pass background and drug screening and be available for any shift. WFMJ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Monday, 90-year-old Army veteran Andy Weaver from West Farmington spoke at the Southington Township gazebo for Memorial Day, reflecting on sacrifices in Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan (he is the last surviving Weaver from that war) and urging the community to remember the fallen. - ➤ Hundreds of vintage cars filled downtown as the Lowellville Cruisin' the River Car Cruise drew local visitors to admire classic vehicles. The event united the community and boosted downtown charm. WFMJ

- ➤ Sydney Canty is leading a local initiative to support veterans with PTSD while honoring those who sacrificed their lives; the program will offer mental health resources and further details will be shared soon. WFMJ

- ➤ Koch Construction has started building four homes near the former Lloyd Elementary School site (the project is called Lloyd Oaks) at the corner of Fitch and Norquest Boulevard in Austintown. Three lots are offered at $50,000 each and a completion date has not been set. WFMJ
