  • Thrive Mahoning Valley is hosting the second annual Cinco on Phelps today from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Phelps Street Gateway in Downtown Youngstown as a free, family-friendly festival honoring Mexican heritage and commemorating the Battle of Puebla in 1862 (featuring live performances from The Labra Brothers band and Mariachi Santa Cecilia) with food, crafts, and local vendor deals available (supported by the City of Youngstown and community sponsors).  WFMJ

  • An explosion in Realty Tower’s basement killed Chase Bank employee Akil Drake when a cleanup crew accidentally cut a live natural gas pipe during work on a city utility project — investigators questioned key figures at a local hotel to uncover what went wrong.  Tribune Chronicle

  • USPS data shows that Youngstown recorded 17 dog attacks on postal workers last year, Ohio ranked third among states with 350 incidents nationwide, and the Postal Service will launch its National Dog Bite Awareness Campaign on June 1—urging pet owners to secure dogs during delivery.  WKBN

  • Councilwoman Samantha Turner requested a recount of votes in the mayoral primary after losing by 64 votes to incumbent Jamael Tito Brown — she paid $3,600 for the recount and the Mahoning County Board of Elections will complete the hand recount Tuesday.  The Vindicator
