COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The MV Solidarity Alliance will host the annual Youngstown Community Pride festival today from noon to 6 p.m. on Elm Street by Wick Park above U.S. 422, featuring a free picnic with tacos and pizza, live music from 1 to 5 p.m. and outdoor games.  WFMJ
  • The Donut Dash 5K run/walk took place on May 30 at Eastwood Mall to benefit the Salvation Army of Warren—Captain John Esker provided details on how the race supported local programs.  WFMJ
  • New Castle held a community day on May 30 — a time to remember those lost to gun violence — that brought community members together to honor their memory.  WFMJ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Meszaros Charitable Fund board is accepting applications for its 2026 Business Awards Program for area businesses and will hold a 10th-anniversary fundraiser on Aug. 13 at the Original Quaker Steak — a local favorite — in Sharon with a $10,000 top award.  The Vindicator
  • John Rudy, owner of The Varsity Club, said the restaurant plans changes (for summer) as downtown businesses prepare for more guests. Customers can expect improvements in the next few months.  WFMJ

CULTURE NEWS

  • The fourth annual Youngstown Film Festival took place yesterday at Penguin City Brewing Company (460 East Federal Street) with activities starting at 11:30 a.m., film screenings, Q&A sessions, and award presentations at 9 p.m.  WFMJ
  • The Tribune Chronicle’s Summer Fun 2026 issue details free outdoor concerts, movie screenings, festivals and community events slated for summer in Mahoning and Trumbull counties starting June 22 — residents can visit local parks and venues in Austintown, Beaver Township, Boardman and nearby areas to enjoy these events.  Tribune Chronicle

FINANCE NEWS

  • Federal student loan borrowers in Youngstown and beyond will get notices starting July 1 to choose a new repayment plan after the SAVE plan ends this year. They have 90 days after notification to update financial details to avoid a higher fixed rate — act promptly.  WFMJ

  • Austintown Fitch defeated Massillon Jackson on May 30 in a softball game to advance to the state final four + the team now prepares for its next tournament matchup.  WFMJ
