- ➤ Champion resident Terry Austin, a veteran who served from 1963 to 1967 and worked on fighter jets in Vietnam and Japan, recounted his military days and his return to Trumbull County where he launched a carpentry business with his brother+ a lasting mark on local industry. Tribune Chronicle
- ➤ The Sole To City Half Marathon supported three local non-profits as foundation president Nicole Ranttila highlighted this year’s beneficiaries. The event took place in Youngstown. WFMJ
- ➤ On May 31 a local color run raised funds for charities supporting first responders - the event united community members in support of local emergency teams. WFMJ
- ➤ Abigail Roberts took over as director of Niles Community Services in May and is collaborating with former director Jean Williams (who led the agency for 40 years) to guide its future operations. The agency, located on Vienna Avenue in Niles, assists residents in Niles, McDonald, Mineral Ridge and Weathersfield. The Vindicator
- ➤ On Saturday morning, about 1,000 volunteers helped beautify downtown during the Red, White and Bloom event honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary. Jarrod Ruth, a Youngstown State University student, planted purple petunias along Champion Street (with support from local families) while the community cleaned up the area. The Vindicator
- ➤ The Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission will host Youngstown VA Vet Fest on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Carl Nunziato VA Clinic on Belmont Avenue, offering veterans, active-duty service members and families access to VA representatives, onsite enrollment, vendor tables and live music with children’s activities. - ➤ A benefit classic car show runs Saturday 1–3 p.m. at Girard MultiGenerational Center while local events include cozy crafting in Niles on Thursday, a movie night in Warren on Friday, an animal show at Mosquito Lake State Park, and art kits at McKinley Memorial Library until June 30 (supplies limited). - ➤ Grief and Loss in Motion is expanding its suicide prevention outreach by offering mobile patch sewing sessions at The Sanctuary Artisans Market (759 East Liberty St.) with hours on Wed 5 p.m.–8 p.m., Thu 4 p.m.–7 p.m., and Sat 10 a.m.–4 p.m. to support the motorcycle community. WFMJ

- ➤ On Saturday, the Salem girls earned their Division III regional title at Austintown Fitch after posting a 4:05.68 time in the 4×400 relay that helped them reach 81.5 points; it marked their second championship win after their 2024 title. The Vindicator
